I sure hope that puts things in perspective and tells you what I think about Africa's power program.

Many of you remember that I've posted about Africa being the next Pakistan or India where call centers and technology will be administered cheaply. This is the start. China is investing billions. But we have hungry kids right here.

This is great. We have near record unemployment here and we're paying to create jobs there. He's buying a place in African history with US tax dollars.

He fights the sequester tooth and nail and then goes and gives away 7 billion of our tax dollars.

I want our President to have adequate protection as he/she travels on official business. I get that. Where I am having problems understanding, is why this trip was needed and why the tab reportedly amounts to some 0.1 billion dollars. The arrogance and waste of this administration will be their lasting legacy for me. If we can't pay as we go, then politicians need to stop going anywhere on the backs of the US taxpayer. Furthermore, I thought Congress has the constitutional responsibility for federal appropriations? Where the he!! does this administration come off offering up $7 billion of our dollars that'll easily cost 2 to 3 times that once it has been paid off with accrued interest? I figure this trip costs every American about $70 each. But since fewer and fewer are paying taxes it means more like $200 to $300 of additional taxes for those of us who do. Let's electrify Africa while American infrastructure falls into disrepair. What a bunch of moronic self-serving idiots!
I feel for the people of the African continent, I really do. But considering our present state of our affairs, this only serves to exemplify the total disconnect inside Washington's beltway. I say we leave it up to the venture capitalist and industry to make investment where it is warranted. If nothing else then maybe offer them low-interest loans which keeps the burden of repayment tied to the actual beneficiaries. What a novel idea, someone actually working to improve their lot in life. For those of you too young to remember, it used to work that way here in America!

This should be entirely a private initiative if they choose to do so. I recall a boat load of money being poured into Iran prior to 1979 by companies that wanted a piece of the pie. A couple of my former co-workers made it out with the clothes on their backs in the midst of the Islamic Revolution. Africa has some true issues but power generation should come after they stop killing each other over tribal power.

I sent my sentiments to the President so if you don't hear from me for a while I'll either be on the lamb or in the slammer in Gitmo.

Oh, Cast Iron, this was an opportunity for O'bama to meet with Nelson Mandela. It would have been a meeting between the first Black president of South Africa and the first Black president of the United States. It would have been a truly historic meeting if it had occurred.

My preference is to stand and fight. I will not accept the "there's nothing that can be done" crowd. It's an uphill battle, but it's a fight worth fighting IMO.

You YOUNG men can fight this one..........as for me......I will continue to invest every dollar, and all my energy into the stocking of food in remote caches. This fight was lost when Americans first "Bentover" for "TSA" cavity search's.

Somethin's gotta replace the coal fired plants that will get shuttered in the name of the new EPA global warming initiative. Or we can buy $400m scrubbers and pay $900million per year to run em... The coal miners better start looking for those Chinese buyers. I'm sure we won't be able to burn coal. But we'll be able to export it.

Over the last 7 years, a coal plant in my town has spent over 3/4 OF A BILLION DOLLARS on environmental upgrades, and there's STILL a major effort underway to close the plant.

Why not offer the power companies incentives to invest in renewable energy instead of carbon based energy? Problem solved.
