There are 2 ICE detention facilities within 20 miles of my home.
Considering the weapons and ammunition being stockpiled by DHS, my sense is that nobody there is thinking about taking prisoners.
If DHS does open more facilities, my guess is that they will use closed military facilities in the U.S. I suspect that the first detainees will be the former military personnel that the government is now in the process of getting rid of so that they can free up money to hire more DHS soldiers. If you want an idea of what they will be like, think "TSA airport security." Mostly big mindless low-salaried buffoons that gloat because they have a badge and a little authority - the same people that the other kids thought were weird back in high school.

Hell no! Thing is, the process takes months or years longer than the 24 hours that should be allocated to the task.
I don't know what the backlog is in the courts. Given the number of illegal aliens in this country it would seem to be pretty high. I also don't know what the discovery process is prior to a hearing.

Get this: Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 278, Section 29D.
"The court shall not accept a plea of guilty, a plea of nolo contendere, or an admission to sufficient facts from any defendant in any criminal proceeding unless the court advises such defendant of the following: “If you are not a citizen of the United States, you are hereby advised that the acceptance by this court of your plea of guilty, plea of nolo contendere, or admission to sufficient facts may have consequences of deportation, exclusion from admission to the United States, or denial of naturalization, pursuant to the laws of the United States.” The court shall advise such defendant during every plea colloquy at which the defendant is proffering a plea of guilty, a plea of nolo contendere, or an admission to sufficient facts. The defendant shall not be required at the time of the plea to disclose to the court his legal status in the United States.
If the court fails so to advise the defendant, and he later at any time shows that his plea and conviction may have or has had one of the enumerated consequences, even if the defendant has already been deported from the United States, the court, on the defendant’s motion, shall vacate the judgment, and permit the defendant to withdraw the plea of guilty, plea of nolo contendere, or admission of sufficient facts, and enter a plea of not guilty. Absent an official record or a contemporaneously written record kept in the court file that the court provided the advisement as prescribed in this section, including but not limited to a docket sheet that accurately reflects that the warning was given as required by this section, the defendant shall be presumed not to have received advisement. An advisement previously or subsequently provided the defendant during another plea colloquy shall not satisfy the advisement required by this section, nor shall it be used to presume the defendant understood the plea of guilty, or admission to sufficient facts he seeks to vacate would have the consequence of deportation, exclusion from admission to the United States, or denial of naturalization."
I don't think illegal aliens should be given any rights, local, state or federal. I'm pretty certain China, Russia or maybe even Pakistan would be ever so gracious and concerned about my rights if I entered their country illegally. I'd probably be looking at snow through an open barred window for the next decade then thrown on a transport back to American.
My point exactly. And the same should go for any non-citizen here. No warnings on anything. You plead guilty, get found guilty, or admit sufficient facts, out you go. You break our laws, you don't belong here.
Since the court can't inquire about citizenship status, everyone - every U.S. citizen - in court disposing of a case has to be read the same warning.
It reminds me of "Press 1 for English."

Well RICK, as long as it is your tax dollars building those, I don't much care.
That's okay. I don't much care to house our own criminals but the alternative isn't acceptable either. I feel the same way about illegal aliens. The really sad thing is it's not just the buildings but medical and dental that's provided while they are housed. Plus sports facilities and computer labs. If you remember Obama's detention reform program that he put in place in 2009?

And I 100% believe that the first group of Americans to be assembled and disorderly are going to be made a CLEAR example of.............by getting Monkey Hammered by DHS. Sadly I feel it is too late to make any change in the agenda. They fear the very people they are supposed to serve and protect.

After you get through making a living (no longer 9 to 5, retire with a gold watch) paying your bills, raising a family, educating them, and maybe taking care of your parents (sandwich generation) there's hardly any energy left for outrage. Indulging in outrage is a luxury only a few can afford.

After you get through making a living (no longer 9 to 5, retire with a gold watch) paying your bills, raising a family, educating them, and maybe taking care of your parents (sandwich generation) there's hardly any energy left for outrage. Indulging in outrage is a luxury only a few can afford.
I can always find time for a good outrage over certain issues. and I work 6 or 7 days a week , two different jobs, raising a 7 yo, have a 19 and a 21 year old, took care of both parents till there passing, and I have plenty of energy for outrage. having a life and responsibilities is no reason to back off from an issue if its important to you or the safety or well being of your family.

So what's it going to take for YOU? Seizure of some or all of your bank accounts? Denial of critical medical care for a loved one? Being strip searched before you enter an elevator? Food and fuel rationing? Uniformed thugs kicking in your door and taking your property for redistribution?
Please don't tell me that none of that is possible. If I'm walking along the beach in the early afternoon, and the wind kicks up and the sky turns dark and the sound of thunder gets louder and louder, I don't have to wait until I get wet to know that it's going to rain.

The one thing we HAVE learned from a prominent "community organizer" is that significant changes begin at the grassroots level, at places like neighborhood centers and church halls and internet sites like this Forum. We have to start somewhere, and getting people to wake up and actually get off their azzes to do SOMETHING is a good beginning.

So, here's what I've been able to squeeze into my "comfortable" life in an urban jungle and 12-16hr work days:
Beyond the given...voting, writing letters, signing petitions, and attending and speaking at community board meetings, I've volunteered my skills (advertising/marketing) in a few political campaigns and for the last 8 years, have been active (and on the board of directors) of a 40+ yr old neighborhood organization that, among other things, liaisons with the local precincts and city officials in all matters of neighborhood preservation, safety and zoning. I volunteer at the NYC rescue mission (helping the homeless get on their feet) and take on Pro Bono accounts any chance I get.
We (Mr. B & I) are also involved in the Wounded Warrior Project and regularly contribute to organizations that help our veterans and their families.
Accuse me of you want--being a philosophical elitist, in denial, fill-in-the-blank...but you can never accuse me of not putting my money and time where my mouth is, or having a double standard or preaching what I don't practice.
If you can't take any discussion beyond +1, Ken, well, that's certainly something you should consider working on. :winkiss:

Those two links prove that anyone with access to the internet can be an expert on anything. All they gurgled up was their opinion with no supporting documentation. I wouldn't put my eggs in either basket. Sorry.
As for the first group of demonstrators being gathered up...there are demonstrators somewhere just about every day. Most are not carted off unless they are violating the law.
@Sarky - I don't believe they exist. If you know where one is and it is close enough I'll go check it out. But until someone actually submits a site that can't be refuted I'll just keep an open mind. I've seen way too many sites that were purported to be camps and about 2 minutes on the internet proves it isn't. They even claimed our local Amtrak station was a FEMA camp because it had an Air Force locomotive sitting in the yard and there was barbed wire around the yard. Scary stuff.

I sincerely commend you and Mr. B for being so involved, and I did NOT accuse you of anything. You inferred that you were not sitting back doing nothing, so I inquired what it is that you are doing. I understand, from decades of personal experience, the time, effort, and money involved with such commitments. I, too, have been deeply involved in several community and civic efforts, from serving 2 terms as the highest elected official in my community, to active involvement in local, state, and federal politics, to thousands of hours of volunteer time devoted to a myriad of organizations, to at least 10 hours of pro-bono legal work every week for almost 30 years.
What I DON'T understand is why the flavor of your posts suggests that you feel that expressing outrage here or anywhere is a waste of time, or why you seem so passive about the direction this nation has taken in the last decade.

Nothing said on here is going to change anything for the better or worse. We haven't had a 60% voter turnout in this country since 1968. Most elections are hard pressed to make 50%. I doubt that most of us only hammer here, Rick. While venting here does makes many of us feel better, it also provides us with a way to exchange information and, perhaps, develop better arguments in favor of our "cause" elsewhere.

We all do what we can in our own way....I do think it's important to know what the issues are, but beating up each other won't help much.

Experience has taught me that the fictional examples given in the first link are entirely plausible. In both my political life and in my law practice, I've encountered more instances of public officials trying to blackmail each other, set each other up, and commit perjury than you'd want to believe. Corruption in government, to some degree or other, is almost systemic.
In town, we recently had an elected official chastise an administrative department head for not giving that elected official's granddaughter a full time summer job. He was brazen and stupid enough to state, at that recorded public meeting, that the reason people run for public office is to get jobs and take care of their family and friends. He was re-elected to office two weeks after that story broke in the press.
Have you followed the Whitey Bulger trial? Did you see the retired supervising FBI agent testify that he accepted cash, including one $5,000 payment, from Whitey, and how he prevented Whitey from being indicted?
A couple of years ago, another local elected official in charge of issuing certain permits for private work was fined because he actually contracted to do the very work that he was issuing permits for. The work that he did totaled about $600,000. His fine was $25,000. He's still in office.
I represented a man who had been promoted to the rank of captain in a medium-sized area police department one morning, only to be suspended later that day, after several officers accused him of being involved in criminal activity months earlier. Almost a year later, I trapped two of the officers into admitting that the allegations were completely false, and that they had perjured themselves in earlier proceedings. I asked one if he routinely lied in court as well; he responded that he did, several times, when it helped his case. He was later suspended for one year without pay. He should have been fired, prosecuted, and sentenced to prison.
Have you ever heard of Annie Dookhan? Google her. She worked at a Massachusetts state drug analysis lab, and she falsified thousands of drug analysis documents. Her supervisors closed their eyes to the obvious. State prosecutors had inappropriate communications with her and had to have known something was amiss. And still, over a thousand people were incarcerated on the basis of Annie's falsified reports and records.
The system is corrupt.

Years ago, another motorist and I jumped out of our cars and prevented a woman from committing suicide by jumping off a very high interstate highway bridge in the town I live in. Three police agencies and one ambulance responded. I knew the paramedics, and they stated that they were familiar with the woman, and they advised me to scrub up with a disinfectant. (This was in the early days when the news of AIDS/HIV was just hitting the press.)
Well, one police official from another jurisdiction ran up to me screaming and swearing (vulgar swearing, I may add) and grabbed my arm and told me to move my @#$%^&* car before he arrested me and had it towed. I just glared at him silently as he had a meltdown right there on the highway. Just as he was about to cuff me, a local police sergeant ran over and intervened. The sergeant then introduced me to the maniac in uniform and advised him that I was the sergeant's boss - the Police Commissioner. Let's just say it didn't end there on the highway, but it ended well for me. However, had I been anyone else, I would have been locked up. And that's just wrong.

Expressing outrage over things that undoubtedly warrant it is one thing. But expecting everyone to look at these events in the same way is naive. The majority of people care deeply about the direction in which our country is headed (at least according to any statistic and poll done by anyone) but they blame different things for it and offer different solutions. (The Tea Party vs. OWS, for example.) Just because I don't agree with say, OWS doesn't mean they are passive or not expressing outrage. Even though it's totally misdirected, they have a protected right to their POV.

Voters will decide huh, I havent seen anything being voted on by the people about gun control. Maybe I missed it but when was I supposed to vote for obamacare? I dont beleive Ive seen those two issues being voted on by the people! Or have I missed something!!

When the Supreme Court rules that your silence can be used against you in a criminal proceeding, that the police can take your DNA simply because you've been arrested, when government agents are allowed to grope you as you board a flight, when you can't enter a public park on the 4th. of July without being searched, when your private e-mails, text messages, and phone calls are all intercepted and recorded by the government, when the administration is raising and arming a domestic army, when the United Nations attempts to dictate our internal policies, when the government attempts to disarm the public, when our wealth gets redistributed in line with the theories of Marx, SOMETHING IS FATALLY WRONG WITH THE DIRECTION WE ARE HEADING IN.
