Read the story - this was a photo op for the reporter - she was asked to reenact the "scene". She was handed an unloaded weapon and somebody "stuck the magazine" in it. I sure hope it was done as a gag.

Regardless if it was for a photo op or not it makes the PD look ridicules, kind of like pointing a weapon at someone for a photo op.

I wouldnt allow someone to put a magazine into a weapon and hand it too me , if they did I would drop the mag and check the chamber . then put it back in the right way.

I can guarantee you that there are people in the military who would do something similar, or worse. I have met a few. I wasn't in any high speed unit, or had any high speed training, which meant my unit didn't either, which meant I had the privileged to meet a few characters.

Another person could not do anything for himself. He would show up in formations with one boot on. You would have to re-teach him everything because he forgot what he had learned the previous day. Kinda like Drew Barrymore in 51st dates. All of these people were recruited during a good economy and no war. The military was having a hard time getting people to sign. Now days, with a bad economy, there are more people wanting to join, so they can do a better job of picking.

You guys have it ALL wrong. That's a new round for the AR (the world most versatile rifle). it's a 223/308 round. Take a .223 and neck it up to take a 30 cal. bullet.

No the people I work with are actually trained and competent to perform there jobs right, Lives depend on it! Its basic safty to check a weapon when its handed to you. regardless of your training or lack of it. SO if I were to hand you my AR you would just shoulder it and not check it?

I remember reading a story (may have been Mas Ayoob) who tells about a number of well respected personal defense guys getting together and talking about some sort of technique. One of them passed around his semi-auto and one by one, they all proceeded to pull back the slide to check to see if it was loaded, before they (while pointing in a safe direction) demonstrated their technique. When it got to the teller of this story, he was surprised to notice that the gun was loaded the whole time, after he checked it himself. Training and habit are a good thing.

She is putting her elbows way out there though. My dad taught me to bring my elbow out almost even with your shoulder. But, if your moving around in confined spaces you better keep them tight.

It sure looks like the mag well is showing so that would mean its inserted. Why wouldnt it insert backwards? it is the same size forward or backwards it just wouldnt lock in place. Try it I bet youll see it goes up in there!

Would you like a list of pictures and news reports of similar incidents ! it may be a single incident for this LEO but not a single issue in general. And what is really funny as far as I know almost all LEO have to have a 2 year degree before being accepted into the academy. education at its finest.

Absolutely correct. All of the LEO's I know would never hear the end of the Sh!t they would hear about this. as well as a call from the commander, even if it is or was a photo op someones butt would be in a sling over it in the LEO circle I am associated with.

The back of AR mags have a raised portion that fits into the grooved back of the mag well. Also the mag release is grooved in the receiver and the mag catch is raised on the magazine. Trust me it ain't gonna happen.

But, video or it doesn't matter right. LOL

I used a P-Mag and a standard metal mag just for giggles.

This picture shows a magazine inserted upside down. Not backwards. The spine of the magazine slides into the grove and there is no raised mag release on the bottom of a magazine. This magazine will fall out as there is no raised magazine catch to prevent it from falling out. Your image is a great shot of the spine on the back of the mag in the back of the mag well.

Here is a picture of my weapon with a metal mag with a ranger plate on it installed upside down. The ranger plate fit into the mag well just fine. But, you are not going to put a P-Mag in upside down at all. Because the floor plate is bigger than the mag well. Maybe if people are prone to stuffing magazines in upside down they should get P-Mags. Or learn to index their magazines.

I actually have tried this and have nothing to gain or lose by this. Have you tried this. Anyone else here tried it and been able to put a mag in backwards. Nobody else notice that in the pics that show the mag in backwards that the mag isn't inserted.
