next weekend (the 10th) ill be making the drive to see friends fam, and go to the wanenmacher gun show...in case you havent heard of it its a HUGE show with more than 4,100 tables expected this year... its 2 days of heaven lol you can spend the entire 2 days looking and if your taking your time you still wont get through all of it.... so i will be making a purchase (or 2 lol) and want to hear what you guys think... i just sold a scar 16s and will be taking the funds with me...so to get to the point in my gun collection there are NOW (post scar sale) two voids in my collection.. one is the shtf gun (scar) and a good lr/deer rifle.... ive been using the scar, m1 garand and other random rifles that work but would like something that easily takes a good scope... and another shtf rifle....SO do i get a good bolt gun AND a another auto? or do i get 1 rifle that does both equally well? now personally even though getting two separate guns would make each better for the task I.E. i reload so ill get much better use out of the brass in the bolt gun and already set up to reload the 5.56... and for 400 yards and south engagements with a good 5.56 is easier than a battle rifle (remember i love 77gr bthp) lighter and can dump a higher cap mag faster if need be (yes it has helped a couple times to randomly shoot holes in walls and have a bunch of ammo to do it with) BUT that being said a 308 auto of some sort would do both jobs pretty well....and IF there was some shtf i like the idea of having one less gun to carry... but that being said im not sure about what platform i would best be served..i want it to be a semi common weapon, detach magazines, optic of course, and a good track record of dependability... so the obvious ones that i have come up with is the FAL,M1A, and AR10...if im missing one then def mention it...and also some pros and cons of each platform.... please draw from personal experience and not what you read or at least mention where you got you facts from please... now i am pretty unfamiliar with the FAL... i hear its a good 2 moa gun at worst and would only look for DSA or FN brand... does it scope well? ergonomics? (thats why ak variants are out) how bad does it chew up brass? logistical support?.... im pretty familiar with the m1a... pretty good rifle...chews brass to all hell, is a pain in the neck to scope and keep mounts from shooting loose (yes iused the good mounts and after a decent amount of red loctite we became friends lol) check weld just plain sucked...had to dill holes in the stock and put an adjustable check rest which i never grew fond of....mine was a springfield variety and i didnt have any mechanical issues...the "internet" people basically say i got lucky with an issue free m1a springer..has this been your experience? the ar 10 would be the easiest to scope, best out of box accuracy, but from what i READ (i really have very limited hands on time with the AR10) even the high end AR10 just seem to have issues....lugs breaking, carrier tilt (if piston) DI models (dpms in this case..again i READ about it) taking a dump around a G rounds...issues with heavy for cal ammo (but "seems" to be an issue with most auto 308) i had an offer of a POF ar10 that i gt pretty excited about till i started googling it... for a 3000 dollar rifle there just shouldnt be that many "said" issues floating around... SO what have i missed, what do you guys use and has worked well for you? i THINK im leaning towards the m1a so if people could chime in with check weld fixes...and other good info that would be great....ill apologies ahead of time for the mass run on sentences and worse than poor grammar

....ill apologies ahead of time for the mass run on sentences.......

Not to go all grammar police, but since you brought it up..... Capitalization, punctuation and paragraphs would make your OP readable. Making recommendations on what you have provided may not be useful to you.

Any personal experience with either of the three weapon platforms is all useful information for me.

I can not comment based on not being able to work my way through this mess of a post!

This is the kind of thing I would hand back to a student without reading. Makes me nervous just looking at it.

Come on Meatball, you can do better than this! I've seen other posts you did.

A Mosin 91/30, a PSL, and a couple of cases of surplus ammo. (Get a box or two of commercial soft point ammo for deer hunting.) and use the rest of the money for other supplies.

Ok, I see I have wasted my time and apparently yours. Although I would invite you to not read further posts that are to difficult for you to read, and then waste more of your time stating what was already said in the original post. Thank you 22kwit for the ONLY relevant post, I will checkout the PSL, the Nagant I will be getting at the gun show to add to my ww2 collection. Question is, a 1938-1939 hex or a sniper variant... see what I find. Please no one else waste your time with this post. Moderator, delete my post and profile.

Why should the Mod's waste their time? Delete your own crap. The mods, nor the rest of use have time for your self important drama.

By the way, meatball.....the two people that you just insulted, are two of the most knowledgeable people you will find. It's a shame you just lost out on their knowledge.

Probably no good reason to leave the thread open.

@meatball - we don't delete profiles - just stop posting. If getting upset that some people agreed with you on your assessment of your own writing is what causes you angst, then.....well.....good luck with that.
