Fourth Annual WSF Jamboree In Pictures

I'll try and keep the number of pictures per post to about 10 to make it easier to navigate.

Our trip started Wednesday and was uneventful. The plan was to get into the mountains and then figure out what we wanted to do - our version of freestyle traveling. We stopped at a welcome center in North Carolina and asked one of the employees "If you wanted to experience mountains, fall colors and water - and only had one day to explore - where would you go"? Her answer was - the Pisgah National Forest.

We decided to drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The leg we were driving on was under 60 miles.......how long could it take?........about 6 hours. Everything above 4000 feet was fogged in. Travel was slow, and the view (above 4000 feet) was non existent. At one point we pulled into a viewing area just for a break and to make some lunch. With both doors of the truck open you could literally see the fog blowing through the cab of the truck. While the drive was mentally exhausting - it was worth it nonetheless. The views from below the fog were fantastic.

Yea, that leaf color thing was sort of preplanned. Crash does not get to see much of that in his stomping grounds.

Looking at those pics you can see why the mountain people developed an independent mindset and possessive disposition. They were isolated with zero outside support, goods or services. And we call ourselves "survivors".

When you look at the pics of the town of Cumberland Gap and that bald faced mountain think about the instructions for going to Kentucky.

"Follow the Wilderness Road till you see the bald faced mountain, turn north and when the mountain is behind you it's Kentucky."

I managed to run Wnnie through 6 states while with me. She hit 3 in 45 seconds as we came through the Gap from Kentucky to Tennessee turned left and entered Virginia.

Born That Way, I need winnie back!!! I have not had a decient bite of food since camp and apparently she took the "dish washing fairy" with her when she left!

No darnit, we were planning on going and at the last minute I found out that i had to work Friday and Saturday because the refinery didn't start up as planned. Being the Project manager, I had to stay and herd it to startup.
I am going to go next year if I have to quit my job! And yes, If I had of been there you would have heard about it alright!:smartass:

In addition to the above, I also packed two knives, a firesteel, meringue powder, food color gels, and jars of olives, pickled watermelon, and pear butter. So I wasn't too surprised.

I could only obtain kitchen passes if I promised to keep BB off the ground, he had been a bit sickly during the week. So, we loaded the camper and headed Southwest after school Friday. We made it as far as Hungry Mother Park where they promised to fix my supper. Lol

It must have been a wonderful time had by all. Crash, your pixs are always so good, the thing is you not only have a very good camera, but you have the eye and knowledge to frame each shot just perfectly. My parents were both professional photographers for over 40 years.

I have been so depressed over missing the gathering. Check my post later about my problems.
