I spend most of my time in the woods (work and play) and I'm looking for websites that deal with woodcraft and survival skills. I have no interest in all that end-of -the-world buy me some guns garbage. If you happen to have a recommended site, I appreciate it.

Now that's too funny. But if you are serious, follow Nell's advice. Search for what you want, check out the blogs, ask real questions.

Hey Nell,
Thanks for your reply. I wish it were true but most replies here seem to be end of the world stuff. I cruise timber in the north east and my worries involve getting stuck out in the woods. I don't give a rats *** which military unit you've been in or where you've been. That appears to be all anyone cares about at this site.

If I came across as rude I apologize, but my original question is the same.I'm looking for wilderness survival, as opposed to survivalist, information and websites. This site appears to be overwhelmingly involved with the latter.

I am sure that there is a wealth of wilderness survival information in there for you to obtain. When I said what are you looking for I meant what specific information about wilderness survival. Your original question was where you could find a website on wilderness survival - for the reasons you stated. As I'm sure you are aware, there are alot of choices out there, but as far as a forum where you can have discussions on the topics ..... I believe this is the place. If you do a search on a topic and can't find it, start a thread. If you don't like some of the discussions that take place, don't participate in them. Again, I believe this is the best site on the web for wilderness survival discussions. Hope you find what you're looking for here - there are alot of people willing to assist.

Good luck with what you're looking for. It would probably be a bit more helpful if you wouldn't insult the members when you start a thread, or with your comments. Just how educated do I appear to you?

Just start a thread, We will be happy to talk about it. Some of these threads go nowhere, and some threads you can not kill with a silver bullet. 70% of the stuff here I don't care about, so what. So I just play where I want, sometimes I get my feelings hurt, Sometimes I want to slap the crap out of the young members, But this is America and everyone is entitled to their stupid opinion, even me and my dumb opinion. So just grab a thread, I for one would love to learn about timber cruising.

@ swampyankee: survival stuff that will 99% never happen is what we talk about when we get bored. the majority of the stuff on the first couple pages are that specifically. if you do a search using the search feature, you will be surprisingly pleased.

Survival kit (something that you will probably be carrying around)
http://www.wilderness-survival.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1256

Survival knife (something you will carry around 24/7)

Clothing / footwear (something I hope your wearing 24/7) ;)
http://www.wilderness-survival.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1386

A whole subforum on wild foods (something you may end up eating)
http://www.wilderness-survival.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17

we have plenty of stuff around here. Just stick around and know where to look.

I was under the impression that I did just that. I went up to the most basic thread (general survival discusion) and asked a general survival question and all I'm receiving is general survival crap (except of course for the yankee bull**** from beerrunner). I just asked a question. If you don't want to answer it, just don't.

I realley just asked a simple question..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

You obviously don't believe that you are going to find the type of information or type of discussions that you seek on this forum, at least that's what you said on your original post as you insulted the members of the forum. Some here thought this forum was the best vehicle for what you are searching for. You disagree. How about - YOU seem like an educated person, why not try a Google search?

Swampdonkey,

I've been looking for the same sight you're are in your original post for quites some time. There are good sites out there and there are some 'really' stupid ones. Yes every one that I have checked out will have your "SHTF" and "TEOTWAWNOI" posts, just don't read them.

This forum does have alot of good information, and some pretty silly information as well, just kick back and take the part you need home with you.

No the information I've found on this or any other website has lightened my pack by 20 lbs., but they do help you leave alot of stuff at home that you used to carry 'cause you had to'.

I don't know how it is cruising timber in the NE, but I've done a little out here in the PNW. If you get caught out over night, cool, unexpected camping trip....If your seriously injured, thats a different thing. I know the guy I worked for wanted his numbers NOW and if I was gone for 3 days with out him hearing from me, you can bet someone would be out looking for you.

I hope you hang around a bit and get a chance to see the good stuff hidden under the surface of this forum....if not, I've got a list of other places to check out....you just won't find a whole lot of the stuff you're looking for in any of them.

That's not it at all. And for the record I am one of those military defender of the Constitution types that you so eloquently put it. Try looking at it this way.

Here's your first post.

I spend most of my time in the woods (work and play) and I'm looking for websites that deal with woodcraft and survival skills. I have no interest in all that end-of -the-world buy me some guns garbage. If you happen to have a recommended site, I appreciate it.

Now in that post, you say you are looking for a website that deals with woodcraft and survival skills. You also state what you are not looking for. Nell gave you a recommendation. Your response? Well here it is.

Hey Nell,
Thanks for your reply. I wish it were true but most replies here seem to be end of the world stuff. I cruise timber in the north east and my worries involve getting stuck out in the woods. I don't give a rats *** which military unit you've been in or where you've been. That appears to be all anyone cares about at this site.

Now here, you indicate that you are unhappy with the stuff that you've been reading. Then you go on to insult a large group of people that may disagree with your assessment of various military units. How do you expect people to respond?

You have received some responses that would appear to be helpful, such as doing a search on the topic that you are interested in. If you find one, post on it. It then moves to the front of the list and, viola, discussion. Hopeak and Sam also gave you sage advice, but you chose to insult again with your "twenty usless responses" comment.

People here are interested in the topics that you are interested in. There might just be a little better way to get the discussion going.

Nah, asking a question doesn't make him a troll. Asking an inflammatory question with no real relavance does.

"Alpine Sapper, you have been here since Jan?? Not really long enough to be calling a member of the pack a troll!"

Yeah, I talk about some of my military service, but overall I'm here because I like to absorb information that may be useful and put it into practical application when I can. I've found a wealth of information here, and a lot of people who have quite a bit of experience and are not unwilling to share it. I'm sorry he can't locate the search button, and feels the need to call out members like it's the OK corral.

I do appreciate your peacekeeping efforts though, so I'm gonna respectfully bow out of the thread.
