Does anyone know about colloidal silver first hand? Does it work?
I have heard of people adding a bit to their water storage to preserve it instead of using bleach.
My wife seems to think there maybe something to it as she adds a silver spoon in the bag to keep her lettuce fresh in the fridge. She says it adds 3-4 days to the life of the lettuce.
Bragg - I don't think I'd put it in my water. Silver ingestion can cause a condition known as argyria. It causes a discoloration of the skin when sunlight reacts to the silver in your skin. You can actually turn blue or gray. Aside from that, deaths have been reported as have kidney, brain and nerve damage.

My buddy was saying it's good for you since it has been depleted from our soil. Gonna have to read more on it.

Do a google search then select Images at the top of the google page. There will be a lot of junk show up but there will also be a lot of photos of folks that have argyria. I know the FDA has banned over the counter here in the US. I think they allow it for supplements but not as a medication. If I understand the disease correctly, your skin reacts similar to a photographic plate. The kind where silver oxides were used to develop the picture. The colloidal silver finds its way to your skin cells, the sun "exposes" the silver and your skin turns different colors. The crappy part is it's permanent. Of course, you'd be a natural as a Smurf in an off Broadway play.
What exactly are you getting at Richard? Are you suggesting the Silver Surfer wasn't cool? Bragg you go ahead and eat your minerals

Personally, I never go into the woods without colloidal silver, both to purify drinking water and for internal and external use and protectiion against infection!
Contrary to mainstream medicine and media propaganda, actual medical journal reports and documented studies spanning 100 years, indicate no known side effects from properly manufactured colloidal silver in animal or human testing. There has never been a reported reaction with colloidal silver and any prescription medication.
Hundreds of thousands of people have used colloidal silver and if there were such a danger of it turning people blue, there should be whole tribes of blue people running around. When you look at the relative handful of blue people you find that almost every one took very large quantities of improperly made ionic silver for very long periods of time - just as Papa Smurf Karason took over a quart a day of his improperly made homemade silver with baking soda and salt for years when the recommended amount is only a couple of teaspoons. Try taking a quart or more of just about any OTC medication whose normal dose is a teaspoon twice daily and see what happens - I daresay you would turn blue alright - blue, gray and quite cold!
In other words, there have been no deaths, nor have their been any legitimate reports of damage. No one has ever died, no one has even been harmed and many thousands have been saved from conditions ranging from Lymes disease, Chrohn's disease, MRSA, flu, bacterial and viral infections internally and externally and many others.
The real danger colloidal silver represents is a danger to billions of dollars of profits to the world pharmaceutical empire and their patented antibiotics. Silver is deadly to over 650 pathogens, with almost no resistant strains, whereas the strongest antibiotics are effective against only a handful at best and the resistant strains are winning the battle.
For proof of what I am saying, take a look at the FDA's own reluctant letter of admission, obtained via a freedom of information request, that silver represents no danger as well as other factual colloidal silver safety information here:

To use your own argument, if the drug industry thought there was a legitimate use for colloidal silver don't you think they would be making millions off of it? Your implication is that the pharmaceutical industry would only be capable of making one type of drug and not marketing another. What flim flam. They would promote both in a heart beat.
Natural health remedies, food supplements and even quackery is about making money just like the drug companies. You guys are always quick to point out some big conspiracy between the FDA and the pharmaceutical companies and act like the health food and supplement industries don't have lobbyists too. Paleeese. Hey, Bragg. To go back to your original question. Read the literature and make up your own mind. A couple of points. Even if your buddy is right and it's depleted from the soil, it's not a trace element your body needs. If that's a concern, go with a multi-vitamin.
And if DonQuixote (You gotta love the irony with the name he chose. I mean, didn't Don descend into fantasy and become convinced he was a knight? I love it.) is correct in everything he says, there are other very effective ways to store water that don't have any controversy associated with them.
You've posted some nice pics of your family and you have some nice looking girls. Would you ever forgive yourself if something like that happened to one of them? I could never take the chance.

I'm not saying it works but either Doulton or Berkefeld had silver in some filter elements. Not sure if they were legal to sell in US or not.
I generally take my silver coins and rub them all over me about once a month. I've never had CAMRSA, HIV, Dengue Fever, Bubonic Plague, or Ebola so it must work.

What are you smoking? Did you double up on those pain pills. Have you ever been north of Columbus? Dude it gets danged cold in some places. I don't think I can will myself warm in -20F weather.

Every spring around here the snow eventually melts and we find the frozen blue corpses (no silver intake required) of those who believed they were going to will themselves warm.

Its not about willing yourself warm, movement keeps you warm, I've been in -20 degrees didn't know the widchill but kept going, you have too, that's survival. But it was in the military, and in Ranger school we did 72 hours of sleep deprevation after doing a long forced march and still completed the mission. its about training.
I was trained to get my butt inside where it's warm and toasty so I guess you're right.

now to use your own argument, how can the drug industry make millions off something that people can make themselves for pennies? exactly, because they can't make it into a pill and patent it, thats the bottom line. not only that, colloidal silver is so effient at killing micros it basically kills everything. now i will agree with you there is a pill for for everything, but the irony in this is you have to take addional pills just to reduce the sides effects from the oringal pills you took then take more pills to reduce the side effects of those pills ect... its an endless cycle, this in itself is laughable. if you have grandparents you will know how many different pills they take everyday. again this is how the drug companies make money. as for the Argyria, i challenge not only you, but every person on here to think of the last time you saw a blue person anywhere (not including the same blue man we've all seen in the media that wears blue suspenders). ive lived for 27 years and have yet to see anyone. but its sooo common, pleeasseee LOL. seriously, what do you think would happen to the drug companies if the FDA advertised the benefits of colloidal silver in curing every know disease. i don't think you understand how money they make. Yep.. I was thinking of him. He was on Oprah within the last year and there are news stories of him also. He apparently started taking that coloidal silver as a kid.

ok, you're probably 50 or 60, so you've been around the block a few times, how many blue men have you seen.......exactly. Another thought, if colloidal silver doesn't work, why do we keep seeing advertisements in magazines and on the tv showing this blue man with a beard and suspenders? why would the pharmaceutical companies give **** who takes it if it doesn't work? Why would they waste their money? Well, they feel threatened and thus are trying to use fear tactics, like going to a catholic church, if you don’t give a certain percent of your income your going to hell.

I am with Donquixote on this one, if a newbie may be so bold. My mother sent me to private schools because she didn't want the me to be educated by the same people that "ran the post office," and I take the same attitude with what I choose or choose not to, but into my body. Several leading manufacturers of health products include 'silver' lines of products from band aids to wound creams etc..
If used as a wound or infection treatment you are probably ok imho. It is those who take it every day for its preventative properties that seem most likely to run into trouble.
I have a home built device to cook up a batch when I get a major illness or large wound. I seldom use it but am always surprised at the recovery times when I do.

We had a friend who took CS religiously. Made lots of claims about it's benefits and showed us how to make our own. He died of bladder cancer. We never did make any for ourselves.
I do believe drug companies will try to dissuade people from using "medicines" that the drug company cannot patent. It is about money to them. If you can make it yourself there's no profit for them. They'll try to steer people towards the "remedies" they can make money on. That being said, I'm still not sold on the health benefits of CS.
Regarding studies by "scientists"... You can eventually find a "scientist" or "study" that'll confirm or deny about any theory, product or practice imaginable.

It seems that their is some risk to any product that will kill germs in water. I myself don't think that drinking any amount of bleach (no matter how diluted) is a wise thing. Has anyone seen this: colloidal silver articles (http://www.silver-colloids.com/Pubs/pubs.html)? I am looking for something that I can use to make water safe that doesn't weigh much and isn't to toxic. Any suggestions other than colloidal silver?
