I went shopping today started out wanting a Ruger Single Six in .357 But then found a deal on a Ruger Single Six in .22 w/ magnum cylinder approx. 7.5" barrel. So I tried to buy it well the powers that be placed me on delayed status, I can't pick it up 'till next Saturday. I was a little befuzzled having never had a problem before and this being my local gunshop where I had bought firearms before. Oh well, I continued my shopping. After Tractor Supply I found myself at Walmart (Did I mention I hate shopping)...Well Still being befuzzled and having had my eye on the Henry .22 I decided to test that delayed satus and wouldn't you know it, I brought home the Henry. So help me out here what gives? Is it because the Single Six was used?
My guess is you have a waiting period on handguns but not long guns.(?)

Might be that we do now, but we didn't 3 yrs. ago when I bought the used Colt .38 at the same shop. Not a big deal really, I can still play with the new Henry for a week. Fitting I bought a Henry, my donkey is named after the firearm "Henry Coal". I think it was actually a secret plot by the F.A.R.T.S. to get me to buy more firearms. I bought 2 so far and HAVE to go back to gunshop next Saturday......

It is act now while I can...I bought my daughter a new bed and her christmas gifts today. I don't do shopping and haven't bought a firearm in 3 yrs. It is not everyday you find the price I found on the used gun.

Thanks B, I do not have the opportunity often to splurge on me. I sold my .38 Colt I mentioned to save the farm this year. I got 100$ over what I payed for it. Properly cared for firearms are money in the bank. Both of these guns are in the "most desirable" category. They are a pair that shoot the same ammo and ammo is cheap enough to have 1000's of rounds without breaking the bank. Also note the pistol is a replacement for a firearm that has become unsafe and will be destroyed now.

Please let us know what you think of the rifle. I've been wanting one of those for a while now. It just seems like the perfect "carry along in case you need to kill a squirrel" gun.
My next firearm purchase will probably be exactly what you got today. LOL
CS - I promise you'll like that Singe Six in .22. That's a versatile little hand piece and a real delight to shoot. I've owned one for 30+ years and I've never not liked playing with it. The 22WMR is a really nice round in its own right. If, on the off chance, you don't like it, just let me know. I can probably take it off your hands.
I used it to teach my grand kids to shoot.

First thoughts on the Henry...It is a manufacturing goldmine, simply put it is sweet! Me and the fiance shot it this evening. 15 rounds each. The gun patterned like a saddle stitch right out of the box. Shooting a tad left. But very repeatable at 100 yds. even for her novice experience. She has never fired a rifle and was very comfortable...in fact she wants one. My new favorite sound is the Henry lever racking another round there is a sound of (Steel) that mates perfectly that just rings when you rack it. I will make adjustments tonight and let ya'll know how that goes. First trip to the range an excellent firearm...I am still wanting one in .357. It is slicker than eel s---t!

You can get the Ruger single six in lots of calibers son. I really liked and wanted the new 10 round .22 he had but no option for the .22 magnum. A 10 shot revolver sounds like a lot of fun to me.

The Single Six has been made since the early 50's. Pretty sure it is/was only made for rimfire cartridges. Until recently it was only available in .22 variants, but now can be had for .17.

My mistake and you are correct I was looking at black hawks and a redhawk. Single action but not a single six. Please accept my apology for being wrong.

Blame Ruger..They make so many cool things its hard not to want everything they put out there. If you are picking up the Single Six in 22lr/22wm, i'd stick with that.you already said you like the idea of shooting 1000's of rds of cheap ammo and wanting to use it as a learn to shoot gun for the grandkids. And it'd be a good carry around the home gun for dispatching varmints and cans and such.You can always get the 357 in a couple months (or whatever your budget would allow)

I realize its a tv creation , but I see it as a handy "in-house" defense gun , lets face it , if your sitting there watching the game and some thug busts in a few rounds of a 357/44/45 might do him well , sure there other guns you can use but this gun can just sit on the coffee table and look like an antique !

You are aware that that the southeastern corner of this is at the 10th hole (back nine) at Petrifying springs golf course, Kenosha County, right?... Putts break up hill...?

That ain't possible Kyrat I was born with a butt that drops straight off my neck, no butt at all. Not as bad as Dad though he has a negative butt.

The dealer told me he had just went to the plant to pick one up as he couldn't get one for a valued customer. Said lots of Rossi guns in stock just not the ones people want.

A 10 shot revolver sounds like a lot of fun to me.
For my son's 11th birthday in October, I took him to the shooting range to shoot the 22 rifle my dad gave to me (which he received from my grand dad). Anyway, we also rented a 10 round 22 revolver. It was a S&W 617 22LR. We had a lot of fun with it, and it was nice not to have to reload every 6 shots. The shop was also selling a used Ruger Single Six in 22 for about $200. I thought about it, but it just wasn't in the budget.

Brought the Single Six home tonight. A good friend is coming over Sunday morning to do some plinking. Fixin' to clean the Henry up for another range day. I love this time of year.

Rick I have put up the biggest tree ever. I cut a 20ft. tall cedar down and then topped it at 10 ft. It took some doing to get it standing. It is about 8ft. diameter at the bottom. My little girl is 8 and will soon figure out the mystery of Santa, but not this year!

.243 does sound sweet. I have been shooting .270 for a long time. Would like to try .243 myself.

I like the .270 as well......ballistic about the same as the 7 mm mag.
My H&R Handi Rifle started life out as a .243, until I added the other barrels.
.243 is a good flat shooting load, but I don't shoot it much.......kinda small in the brush.

I have shot every grain from every maker at this point. I like 150gr. Corelokt mostest! Don't care for ballistic tips at all.

I shoot the Corlok's as well as a standard SP, in both the 7mm and .270, and have never had a problem with dropping whatever, and not ruined any meat...on the out side.
DD shoots a Howa bolt .243, and does real well with it, so not knocking the load, I just prefer the .270/7mm mag combo as my "go to's".

To each his own... I'll take those ballistic tips. 55 gr ones in the .243 are lightning fast, super accurate, and pure magic on coyotes. The 90-105 gr bullets are very effective on antelope and deer. I've even known a few people to use them on elk - though they do seem just a tad small to me for that.
In my 7-08 the 120 gr BTs have accounted for half a dozen antelope and one of my bigger mule deer. I have no complaints there.
For anything bigger I prefer a premium bonded bullet like the Nosler Accubond, the Barnes TSX, or the Swift Scirocco - though I have taken four elk with 140 gr. Hornady SSTs (basically the same construction as the Nosler Ballistic Tip) out of my .264 Win Mag with only one shot apiece. I've lost very little meat from these animals - though for some it might still be too much.
I like the plastic tips for the increase in ballistic coefficient and the fact that they don't deform in the magazine well like lead-tipped bullets can. With really big game (elk size +) I worry too much about "lesser" bullets like the core-lokt and others like it blowing up on the surface of the animal's skin if shot from a high velocity rifle at too close range. I've never actually had that happen but, it's one of my paranoias.

Totally missed your post. Just make certain you keep the water added to that guy. A tree that large with pull a LOT of water. Sure don't want it to dry out and become fire tinder.

I'm glad they only have them on the west coast and have always resisted the urge to go in. But those shoes will last for ****ing ever (I have a pair that's 6 years old and only had to be resoled once).
I haven't bought a fire arm in probably four years now. Once I get my new state license I'll be going after the last three long guns I want with my second pay cheque. I'll also sell one of my long guns (I don't want my springfield 1903 anymore, .30-06 is just too expensive and I get the same results with 7.62x54r that I'm after).
I have also been considering getting rid of my kal tec p32 and going with a compact 9mm instead to lessen the calibers we have kicking around the place.
Since you like Kel-tec, look at their PF-9. It's my EDC.
