So there I was, all geared up and ready to go. What did I take? Its a big list. My level three assault pack has a store bought survival kit in a bottle, a complete fishing kit with rod and reel with a new spool of 30 pound test. a magnesium fire starter, a complete fire starter kit, a home made survivalkit that has everything to beat "murphy" at his best game. 100 rounds of .308, 200 rounds for my 22 revolver, 50 bbeing bird shot. plus a skiner knife, pocket knif buck knife/hunting hatchet, and a machete. I also had lg bblack trash bags and clear. 200 feet of para cord, 50 feet of twine and corner clips for a tarp. I also have a lensetic compass, maps, and two 6 man survival tents that are 20 times thicker then the stanndarrd sppace bllanket. Then there is the sleeping bags made of the same thick space blanket material not too mention there are two. plus for flashlights, one solar light, two packs of dental floss and a beanie, blaze orange. Anyway, I even carry candles, matches, lighters, and magnify glass. there is even a boy scout pann set with another fire kit. My entire point, I prepare before I go out. I made fire with a bow/spindle combo in under ten minutes (i started the summer with a time of two days). I have spennt a geandd total of 25 days in the mountains of Wyoming this year, alone. I went out preparred to live, not survive. Thee laast two had temmpps below zero and 6 inches of snow. I have another ten days this year, hopefullly, I will gget my elk and deer. Have fun and remember, you can out think "Murphy".

Whew! You tote all that stuff on your back to elk hunt??
Of course, whatever makes you comfortable out in the mountains is what works for you, but I don't think I could make it up my stairs, much less these steep Rocky Mountains, carrying all those goods.
Good luck on your hunt.

it does sound like alot, but it weighs about 25 pounds, and that is including three meals (can of chicken or tuna and vacum packed chunk of smoked samon. I am still in pretty good shape for 38. I walk close to 5 miles a day on the hog farm, so I stay fighting fit. my pack stays with me or when im working, its close by. another trick, I take alot of breaks. thanks for the luck, I really hope I get my elk. itll be yummy.

Oh yeah, "Murphy" always checks to see what you have....... then zaps you with the one thing that you didn't (or any one else) thought of, this time.
Then there is the Zilch effect...."IT" will happen at the most inopportune time possible for any and all concerned....
It's not nice to tempt Mother Nature and her right hand man...Murphy.
Offer up a little prayer to the outdoor gods and enjoy.

the pack does indeed weigh less then 25 pounds, the ammo is the heaviest thing. I feel I need a complete kit to live off since I go out alone. I also believe the knowledge phylosophy and my mind is filled. my pack goes everywhere I do. cheaper then dirt dot com is where I got my pack. 50 bucks. most of my kit is based off what I learned while deployed in every climate. not too mention I grew up exploring the rockie mountains here in Wyoming. And no sir, I dont tempt mother nature, I live with her. I distribute my .308 ammo between the pack, rifle, and a fanny pack. and I do plan on posting pics, as sooon as I figure out how and get the time. I do this from my phone because the wind normaly slows the compuer or the wife is on it. murphy hates me and will one day get even, but until then I will continue to at least try to stay ahead of him.

there are a lot of my experiences that are too long too list here, but I have quit a bit of field living and an infantry mind set. I was born in alaska, lived in arizona and alabama, and ive called Wyoming home since I was 11. joing the Marine Corps topped off a life spent in the wild. I consider myself to be highly knowledgeable in wildcrafting. I learn more daily. I mine the creeks in the summer and hunt all winter. I rock hound in between it all. I know you cant always bet Murphy, but you can always try.

I hope you dont mind me asking a few questions as I can't help but be curious about your gear.
I would really like to know more about this stuff , "20 times thicker then the stanndarrd sppace bllanket" Material.
Since your tent, sleeping bag and sleeping mats are made from it.
I recently spent a couple nights out in the mountains and I required the following:
1) "Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag" with GoreTex Bivy.
1) "Self Inflating" Sleep Pad AND,
1) Rolled Foam Sleeping Pad.
That is a lot of dead air space and is what insulates from the cold.
I also had synthetic underwear and socks. It only got down to about 20*F. and my feet still got cold.
I'm not sure how one could survive in temps down to 0* sleeping inside 2 plastic bags with 2 plastic sheets as a sleeping pads, inside a plastic tent. Maybe I'm doing it all wrong?..
I'm not sure how I missed this thread. What brand are the tent and bags? I've never seen anything like that and it would sure be worth checking out. The older I get the more I look for the light weight stuff. I didn't see a first aid kit or anything for water. Do you just boil your water?

Josephastill, "mountainman and survivalist", you have hit on a website where people actually go out into the woods and do things. Many of us also have scales in the bathroom and weigh our gear rather than making a close or distant guess.
That IS a lot more then 25 pounds and you have not mentioned a shred of food or counted your rifle and pistol in the load. The "level three assault pack", if military trim, will weight 8 pounds+ empty. 100 rounds of .308 tips the scales just short of 9 pounds. Rifle will top 9 pounds and pistol another 2. That is 28 pounds for pack, guns and ammo and no other gear is in that measure.
Why are 100 rounds of .308 necessary? Are you intending to shoot every deer/elk in Wyoming?
Also why 50 rounds of your .22 ammo is wasted on the useless "birdshot".
If you are alone why the TWO SIX MAN TENTS? I would like a link to where you purchased those 6 man space blanket tents, I would like to have one of those in case I ever have a 6 man emergency.
Have you discovered yet that those "space blanket" sleeping bags are for emergency use and hold condensed moisture like a bucket?
Pictures or it did not happen. If you can tote all that to the elk hunting level you should have a camera in there somewhere.
Kyrat - The next time we're together remind me to tell you the story about flies, sugar and vinegar. I've got a good one about feed rope and hanging, too.

I really hate when the wind slows down the interwebs, too. BUT, hey, with two packs of floss, you'll be all set as far as dental hygenie goes.

"And no sir, I dont tempt mother nature"
I would have to disagree, going into the "Rockie Mountains" in WINTER with over 10 Lbs. of ammo (are you expecting an enemy ambush?..) and plastic bags to sleep in sounds like an outright challange of it to me.
I don't know what kind of vast survival knowledge you have but, maybe you should start a youtube "survival school" and post some videos!

im still learning alot, and the bags and tents are made out of a thermal bag that is used to carry boar semen. it is identical to a mylar blanket just ten times as thick, so there is the twenty times. I hope u can count also. and I may have more then,25 pounds of gear, but it is not all carried in my pack butwad. and yes I know people that are on thus site go out and do stuff so do I. I never claim I know everything. but after 12 years infantry, where I taught and practiced survival all around the globe, I do know a few things. as for video, I have a few pictures taken on my phone. im glad I have never had to use anyy of my equipment in an emergency, except bandaids. when im camping I have a mummy bag, from 1797's era. and dental fliss is a very good tool to have if you cant think of a few uses then you are an idiot. so say all the negative crap you want, its still is just crap. it is my survival kit, the bird shot is another round for a purpose. I dont care what you carry, if its a good idea, great, I carry what I carry. im a 210 pound man that still in damn good shape for 38. I said my pack wiegjs in under 25. I distibute the wieght ovet myy body, not on my back like an idiot. if you want a thick blanket, ask ill send you one. and so all of you smartypants know, ill put my money were my mouth is. come see me, we may just get along and teach each other something.

if the myans are right, you need more then a survival kit. you will have to start over. no stores. no cars. no houses. what then? id rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

"when im camping I have a mummy bag, from 1797's era." Huh?...
Thick plastic will not keep you warm at 0* when you have been inactive and sleeping for hours.
You would also be drenched from condensation.

Friend, can you skin Grizz?
You want to discuss 1797 era gear you came to the right place! I have two trailers full of the stuff, all of it researched and historically accurate to the intended era. I can duplicate as far back as 1675 in a pinch but the bark canoes are hard to find these days.

I spent 8-12 weeks a year and often more then 20 weekends in 1750-1840 era gear before my wife passed away (she really enjoyed the camping) and was director, tour guide and villiage blacksmith for a historic site for two years besides teaching history for the better part of from 1975 until today.
I think I need to say no more since I am trying not to get a "BE NICE" warning notice from the moderators.

"a thermal bag that is used to carry boar semen." Yeah, I think that's commonly known as "a boar scrotum". How many of them does it take to make a six man tent? Must be a lot, huh?

There is absolutely no point in leaving this thread open. Questions will lead to explanations. Accusations will lead to - well - we just saw what it will lead to.
