my preperations would consist of militant resistance. regular, militia, guerilla, or policital/demonstrative; whichever seems the more prudent in view of circumstances.
otherwise; plans would be to confirm and/or facilitate relative security of my family and loved ones by the best balance of expedience and comprehensiveness affordable, as i would in any crisis.

a nation of people is perpetually occupied by itself. this is the natural state of state, so to speak. strictly speaking; the only thing that has changes is how loudly some people currently feel the need to express their views (or interpret the views of others) in common settings.

I can buy into that. Considering all else, I'll wait and watch for now. However, I don't expect much.

like any demonstration; i just hope they manage each other so the police don't have to. i hate it when protest becomes angry. crowds are known to get stupider than their constituent parts some times, and of course, agitators like to exploit that.
i'll probably leave that at that, to avoid politics.

My military service taught me a thing or two and quite frankly, we have the largest standing army in the world (US Hunters). It would be a lose lose for any occupying force as unconventional warfare would favor the home team.

My preps are the same ensuring that I give "occupiers" a wide berth and MYOB. And as always, situational awareness goes a long way; have multiple options of getting anywhere, know where to seek refuge, get water or use the facilities.

I agree. My only concern is what would unite US Hunters when needed. During WWII, a Japanese General said they would never go to the American mainland because "behind every blade of grass will be a rifle". The problem with today, I fear, is that our society overall doesn't have the backbone to do what is needed when it will be neccessary. Just my thoughts.
That's a common quote attributed to Admiral Yamamoto. However, there is no historical record documenting that he made any such statement.
Hunters may make the world's largest standing army but there is no reason to believe that they have the training and logistical support to make up an army. Let alone the health to do so. It's conjecture at best. I've seen the little ditty about how many hunters are in the woods in PA this week-end and you have to believe the numbers are correct across the board and then take at face value that all would and could fight.

natertot, It's only about 50% or so of the population that has no backbone, so it works out slightly better than during the 1st American Revolution.

Sarky, as you might imagine, there are many ways to "occupy". Boots on the ground are so very last century and if we assume that's the only way it's gonna play out we've got another one coming. I suppose when all one's got is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
The Continental Army got their butt kicked as a bunch of farmers. When Friedrich Wilhelm von Stueben joined the CA as Washington's Chief of Staff in the later years of the war he began intensive training. Until then, the CA didn't even know the basics of military drills and tactics. He literally wrote the book titled Revolutionary War Drill Manual that the CA used.
He is one of the very first to use a cadre of trainers that he personally trained. They in turn went back to their units and began training them.
At the start of the war the two armies were about evenly matched in manpower with both sides having about 10,000 men +or-. The numbers vary depending on who you read and account for desertions on the American side. The CA was composed of a pretty motley crew of uneducated farmers, rif-raf and Negro slaves that had been promised freedom. Logistics could not even be settled across state lines with food shortages, clothing and ammo drying up because states refused to bare the cost. Two large scale mutinies even had to be dealt with.
Stack this against three of Britain's top generals, Howell, Burgoyne and Clinton followed by a fourth highly regarded general Gage. Sitting off shore was Admiral Graves with a small armada of British Naval ships. The CA was viewed as merely a band of rebels that simply had to be put down so they could go back home. And they very nearly did it by offering amnesty to the signers of the Declaration, issuing marshal law and out maneuvering them in most battles.
Had Gen. von Stueben not joined Washington and had General Rochambeau not brought along his French Expeditionary Force along with a sizable Navy to engage the British and keep supply lines open we might well be drinking tea and eating crumpets and spending our days saying things like, "God Save the Queen".
I guess I should point out that I'm not saying we can't defend ourselves or that having a well armed citizenry/militia isn't a good thing. I obviously think it is. I just don't think we should put a lot of stock in untrained civilian warriors. The military would probably not think too highly of a bunch of overweight 50 year olds with Mosins, muzzle loaders and cowboy guns wanting to get in the mix of things. They'd probably be afraid of getting their own shot about as quick as the enemy. If I were Colonel Sav Rass I sure would be.
Where old broken down plow horses like me might really be of benefit would be as cooks, truck drivers, supply fetchers and things like that. Put us on the front lines and our poor medics will be too busy dealing with our hemorrhoids, pulled groin muscles, lost dentures and dispensing hearing aid batteries to help those that really need them.

Rick, I couldn't agree more. I think that a small band of us mosin bearing people could help with guard posts and protection of roadways and other resources. Think of the movie Defiance. They didn't win the war, but they sure put a crimp into things.
I would certainly agree if a comparison were made to us and the French Resistance, Greek Resistance or Albanian or Yugoslavian Partisans during WWII. That kind of activity could certainly be well within the realm of possibility. However, a very clear and unrestricted source of supply has to be established for even that level of resistance to be sustained.

...but to get some perspective, this is what the Afghanis have done for centuries of foreign occupation. Eventually the occupiers get tired of a no win proposition at a very heavy cost, and they leave. It's a unique, long-term, big picture mindset that has served them well, regardless of what we think of their way of life.

Rick, I wasn't talking about the rag tag continental army but of the militia which fought an unconventional war which they learned from the French and Indian war.
Benese, If you are going to occupy, you will need boots on the ground.

in a strict sense yes, but i would argue that against certain states a strong campaign of air dominance would be as good as an occupation in terms of controlling movement, infrastructure and suppressing widespread resistance.
movements if ideology and culture can exert strong influences on other nations as well. one could argue that a substantial and growing portion of the united states for example is being turned against the greater interests and dominant desires of the nation by gang culture and the drug and arms trades.
there are different types of warfare. while none is directly analogous to another, parallels can be made.

Sarky, the French and Indian war was fought by provincial regiments. For the most part, those regiments were only put together in times of need and disbanded shortly thereafter. New York was a notable exception. They were mandated by law to maintain a quota per county of able bodied men that served with the British Army. They used their own weapons but wore uniforms that were copied directly from the British Army. They were not unconventional. Quite the opposite.
But here again they and the British were getting clobbered on the the British western front during the French and Indian war. They were savagely massacred at Ft. William Henry and even at places like Bloody Creek well after they had secured the area. They only achieved success after France became embroiled in war in Europe with Prussia and redirected men and supplies to that effort. Even then it took another two years for the British and American troops to capture Montreal.
Unfortunately, what training they received from the British was lost on the Revolutionary War because it occurred a full 20 years later. Many of those that had served with the British were either dead or too old to fight.
Early American history is something I find intensely interesting. It is amazing to me how very close we came to not existing as a nation. But for several unique occurrences at very specific times we simply could not have survived the outcome. I'm hard pressed to believe that a random series of events could occur in a specific sequence to ensure our birth. But they did none the less. One can't help but wonder if the outcome was not preordained.

Reb - To get you back on post. No, I don't do anything specific for that. I plan for the worse case natural disaster and "think" that's covered well enough to tackle most anything that comes along. At least it looks good on paper.
