New .243 rifle

I was sighting in a .243 for my daughter that I had just purchased. This rifle was not bore sighted , any ways by the time I got it on paper I noticed the cross hairs are tilted to the right any info on this, the scope is tight and level.The scope is a FM 3x9x40.thnx.

If the scope is "tight and level" and yet the crosshairs are tilted, then something is wrong with your scope. Send it for repair or replace it with something a bit more rugged. Considering the brand, you'll probably have to go with the latter option.

I know it's often not what people want to hear but, generally scopes retailing for $65 are that cheap for a reason.

I thought that was the problem never had a scope do that before, It came on the gun figured I'd give it a try guess I'm going to Gander mountain.

I thought maybe I would revisit this one a bit...

My wife allowed me to purchase a Remington 700 SPS in .243 Win for Christmas this (last) year. Got it at Wally World for a bit under $400 complete with a bore-sighted scope. I don't know if this is the same model rifle that cm79 purchased but, when we went out to sight it in the scope lasted for only 3 rounds before the crosshairs were canted way off their proper axis. Up until that third round the gun itself seemed to be shooting quite well but, three rounds is not exactly good enough to know for sure. One thing that is for sure; it has to be a pretty crappy scope for the recoil of a .243 Win to cause such damage so easily. Shame on Remington for including it and calling the gun a "package."

Luckily, my dad had a spare Burris scope that that I was able to convince him into letting me take as a temporary solution. Now I've just got to find a good scope to buy for this gun... preferably without having to effectively double the cost of the rifle.

Anyway, the point of all this was just to suggest that, should you choose to purchase one of these "package" guns, make sure you have thoroughly tested your scope before you rush off on the hunt of a lifetime (or any other hunt for that matter).

A .243 doesn't have much of a recoil, and if the scope couldn't stand up to that, good thing you did have a .300 wssm or something larger.

This holds true for any scope/rifle combo factory or any thing you put on your self.

You get what you pay for, but still need to work on your mount, level, and where/ how it shoots.

I hadn't noticed, but with one scope I mounted, thought I had done a good job of lining up.....till picked up the rifle and just sighted thru it left handed....it's was cocked to the right?

Anyway as long as it shoots where the cross-hairs meet, every time, it shouldn't matter how it looks.

I have found that Nikon makes a great durable scope for a good price! And their optics are on par with a lot of more expensive scopes!
