Fun in the city

The UN's in session and there's been a gridlock all day every day all week long. Why is this fun, you ax?
Well I walk everywhere, passing cars, cabs, buses and slow moving tourists. Never seen so many armored cars, vans and cool looking dudes with machine guns hanging out of sliding van doors and open car windows. Just on this morning's run in the Park at 6am, I passed this convoy: armored jeep, followed by an armored car, followed by a jogger flanked by 4 tough looking guys (all running in unison), followed by an armored jeep. Don't know who it was, didn't want to stop and stare, but it was neat.
Last night on my walk home, I come to a blocked intersection; no traffic allowed through, can't cross in any direction; barriers, police with machine guns & dogs, super cool security guys on motorcycles, flashing lights everywhere. I ask what's going on and a cop says the pres. is supposed to pass this way. So I wait, and 15 min. later, here comes a convoy. It's really kind of impressive, standing at the curb no more than 10' away watching the spectacle. In the 22 years I've lived here, I've never encountered anything like it.

Now it did put me in mind to wonder what if. And it did reconfirm something I already knew, which is, if TSHTF, hunker down and don't try to bail--you won't get far and you might get trampled on. As much as I really hate this inconvenience (why not move the UN to Alaska or Beirut?) I've come to think of it as a fire drill for potential things to come. And fire drills are always good.

Aaaah the joys of the city :). You are probably correct, unless you are lucky and use a crystal ball to get ahead of the herd, "bugging in" at least in the short term is probably your best option. A good lesson for other city dwellers
