I try to maintain a pretty versatile library of things like Fox Fire Books, Wilderness Medicine and Dentistry, military manuals, etc. etc. Most are freely available on the net and can be downloaded in their entirety. A lot of them are 200-500 pages or more. One of the ways I maintain the library is to actually print out the "book" and place it in a 3 ring binder so if something does happen I still have access to the information.

I had fallen behind a bit in printing some of my books so the last two days I've spent catching up. I've burned through no less than five (5) printer cartridges at $37.00 a pop! along with over 3000 sheets of paper! and 9 binders!!!!!!!!

My point to this is if you decide to maintain a paper copy of your books then you really might consider purchasing the actual book. Cost for the commercial books can't be more than I've spent on printing. I'd be willing to bet if you shopped around it might even be less. I've never sat down and printed as many as I have the last two days but the cost is really prohibitive in my opinion. Plus the commercial books won't take up as much room to store. I'm done printing but if I had to do it over again I think I'd just pay for the actual book. :blush:

The other problem with your printouts is if you get them wet, they're gone...
You might see if a local print shop would take a thumb drive of docs and print them out on a laser printer for you for a few cents a page. And laser printers can duplex print (on both sides of the page.)

Trouble with local print shops, they get a little persnickety if they feel you are violating someone's copyright by printing. There are self serve places too.

But you're right, the book may be less costly.

I had picked up a case of three hole punched paper. I knew I'd burn through a lot. I had 3 or 4 spare printer cartridges here but I never dreamed I'd go through so many of those. I'm running about 600 pages for a #5 Canon cartridge. I just never sat down and calculated how many pages each cartridge will print. I'd hate for others to make the same mistake.

I like running my copies off on the mimeograph machine. It may be slower, but after the first 50 pages you really don't care.
