Drunk Swedish elk found in apple tree near Gothenburg

A homeowner in southern Sweden got a shock when he found a drunken elk stuck in his neighbour's apple tree.

The animal was apparently on the hunt for fermenting apples when she lost her balance and became trapped in the tree.

Per Johansson, from Saro near Gothenburg, found the elk making a roaring noise in the garden next door.

He called the emergency services, who helped him free the boozed-up beast by sawing off branches. She spent the night recovering in the garden.

The next day she took herself off into the woods with her hangover.

It is not unusual to see elk, or moose as they are known in North America, drunk in Sweden during autumn, when there are plenty of apples about.

Other residents of Saro had seen the elk on the loose in the preceding days.

Mr Johansson said the elk appeared to be sick, drunk, or "half-stupid", the Associated Press reported.

Funny!! The same thing happens in Northwest Montana- deer and elk hang out around apple and cherry orchards and eat fermented stuff and start acting whacky.
It also happens outside of Glacier Park with Grizzly bears. Trains hauling corn and other grains sometimes leave a trail of stuff along the tracks, it ferments and then bears eat it and start stumbling around the tracks all hopped up, then a train comes along and runs over them. Wild animals and alcohol dont mix...lol

Why did they call the fire department? That sucker would be in my freezer as fast as I could cut it up. By the way, for those interested. Elk in Europe are called Moose in the States and Canada. That is why the picture looks like a moose and not an elk. :)

Certainly beats alot of places we humans end up after a bit of fermented juice. I bet the moose learns to leave the stuff alone faster than most humans. I had a dog that got grunk off beer cause he and my dad would share a ber sometimes but another friend also shared one with him. That dog had a good time that afternoon but if you could have seen that dog the next day you would have laughed your self silly. I got up the next day the dog was on the sofa and opened one eye and looked at me like could you walk a little quiter. I gave him his breakfast he walked out looked at it and got back on the couch and slept the rest of the morning. The dog never drank beer after that. He was one smart dog.

When we used to raise hogs they would drink the water? coming out of the silage. It was funny to see them stagger around then fall over. Then they sometimes acted almost human. They would lay there and grunt and snore until it wore off.

Well, when it only had a few apples it was kinda B-ed up looking. But it kept eating and made it through C-ed up, D-ed up, E-ed up and finally F-ed up looking. If it hadn't gotten stuck it probably would have made it to G-ed up looking.
