It's not like this law will stop people who wish to do harm from having a knife. It's just going to make it a pain in the donkey for others to get a knife.

I say we give people like this their own portion of land for their own state. They can then lead their lives free of dangerous pointy objects and leave the rest of us be. Then watch them come crying back when they finally realize that banning "dangerous items"(refer to list in post #2) won't stop crime and murder, and that there is such a thing as too much government control.

I understand that you were using a catchy reference to Boston's history; but I assure you the Puritans are not in ascendancy in 21st century Boston. Furthermore, Puritans are a religious group that I identify with, so out of consideration to me, please withhold inaccurate criticism of them. (I know that New England Puritans deserve some serious criticism for things they have done; but those are probably topics for a different website--and, as far as I know, knife control policy is not one of those things.)

I must have missed Statistics in school while I was in Common Sense 101I'm in Statistics, now, having happily missed it on my first go around. My appreciation for the use of statistics is largely unchanged--minuscule.

No religious discussion. I was merely referencing the preponderance of laws for every little thing that the Puritans had on the books. This state still has Puritan Blue Laws on the books, as do several other states in New England and beyond. Unless you live in a state with Puritan Blue Laws, you probably don't understand the reference.
Most of the ones we still have now only have to do with Sunday rules. For instance, it wasn't until 2004 that stores here could sell alcohol on Sundays, and that was only for towns within 10 miles of NH and VT until it was broadened to all towns. But still no sales before noon on Sunday!
Also there is still no hunting allowed on Sunday here in MA.
The Puritans had far more restrictive laws than we have now ie regarding how a man could wear his hair, no public displays of affection, the width and cut of a woman's dress sleeve...and on and on. Sounds like what Beacon Hill wants to bring back.

As for who elects these folks, you got me...

This has been one of the lesser thought provoking threads in a while.

After all, we are talking about BOSTON, which is still part of Massachusetts. They do stupid stuff like this in Massachusetts!

Why do you think they are known far and wide as Mass-holes?

I am not worried about their trend at all. This is one of my three no entry states and they can ban guns, knives, pitchforks, garden impliments, slingshots and me for all I care. I'll never set foot in their realm.

Neither do I feel sorry for those that do live there. No one is forcing them to stay and support the twerps they put in office.

We have this discussion all the time about staying someplace you don't want to be.
I still have to work for a living and the job is here. I'd like to think this state isn't a total write off and can possibly someday be saved. I'm kinda fond of the topography, if not the politics.


There is actually a Knife Rights.org group out there that is involved in this and according to their website, it isn't just the silly mass-holes doing this crap.

Boston Glove, September 9, 2011.
Boston Police were called to Locke-Ober by the restaurant staff who accused a patron of using a steak knife to cut one of their specially marinated 12 oz. Prime Filet Mignons. Boston SWAT surrounded the restaurant and filmed the patron eating. When dinner was completed officers moved in only to discover the patron was using a specially modified letter opener.

"As far as we can tell there are no laws on the books against letter openers," said Chief Bookum Dano.

City Councillor Weirdass Idees said he intends to introduce legislation that will make it illegal to use any postal device to eat with.

I'll have you know I built that rifle with my own hands and gave it to that woman! I also kept it after she died and it hangs on the wall today. After she passed away I could have moved anywhere, but no amount of money is worth selling my human rights.

I live in KY for a specific set of reasons.

We have legal open carry.
We have SHAL ISSUE concealed cary
we have the highest ratio of gun ownership to population in the nation
we have a low crime rate
we have low taxes
we have represenatives that listen to their constituates and vote accordingly

I am also on short fuse this weekend and am tired of hearing people whine about their rights and then support the tax base that is opressing them.

And I am incredably pi$$ed due to the fact that the Twin Towers have not been rebuilt complete with anti aircraft batteries on the roof and a sign that says "Try That Again!"
