New Eye for the Model 24

Working with the Savage Model 24, decided to try to mount a scope as the old eyes are liking a scope more and more.

Got a good deal on a 3X9 scope and a mount for the M24, so mounted it up and will be giving it a try this week end hopefully.

When I got the mount, it dawned on me that it mounts like the .22, the model I have has the 3/8 groove same as a .22.......I did not know, or realize that. Duh.

This tells me if I use a 3/8 groove to Weaver or rail adaptor, I can bolt on most any kind of sight or accessory.....Cool.

So with a pre set with the laser bore sight-er, we will see how it works.

I did have a hammer spur in my spare parts, so as to help with hammer clearance.

That's for the Grandson....His Momma says, "Not yet" just turned 2, this week.....I would think by now he would be able to field strip an M4, maybe he can get into Glockcop's Cub Scout troop.....

I had been kinda working on this as I was having a problem "getting down" of the iron sights and see them clearly....
Did actually mount a cut-down comb stock, looked into finding a Weaver Receiver sight and of course scope mounts.....Then this set-up came along at a good deal.

Most importantly is simply the fact that these do have the 3/8 groove, a small detail that even several gunsmiths seems to over look in my previous search for a better sight set up that was comfortable for me.

Will be intresting to see if the .22 mag and the 20 ga with slugs, shoot any where close to each other.

Never know. These badges would be useful knowledge, but maybe not so much for 6 year olds. I should definately wait till they are 7 :). I can see the hostage negotiations now...."If you come out now peacefully, I will share my Skittles and PB&J with you.....I have some Transformer gummies on the table we can talk about too". Haha!

Great idea hunter63. Send lil man down here and I'll have him detail stripping MP5's, M4's, 870's, Sigs, and Glocks within a week :). Your lil man could be the youngest graduate of the Glock armorer's school. Think about the proud grandad you'll be. This could work out to your advantage very quickly. You can trade him a pack of M&M's for a full clean up after range day. Hahaha!

My Camper's companion has the groove for a .22 scope. Says right on it NOT to shoot the shotgun with the scope attached. I did not pay attention to that writing. NOT a good idea on my part as my new red dot scope went flying. I would wear a hardhat when you shoot it (at least until you know it will hold). I had a lump on my head for quite a number of days.

The way your rail clamps on there may help to mitigate scope movement. I would still be careful with it though. The scope flies with a pretty good velocity, and really smarts when it hits. Maybe fire it remotely a few times from a "Lead Sled" or such.
My 30-30 over 20 is built for a stronger scope mount. As I use it for deer and grouse, the scope just got in the way. Now it just has the flip-up rear sight and the normal blade front. Never did get both barrels to shoot to the same point with the scope. With open sights, point of impact is in line, but just a bit lower with the shotgun.

Thanks for the heads up anyway, I did just go out and check it, it's in the truck, nothing on the gun anywhere about that.

I'm thinking that the long clamp with set screws the length of it may be a bit more heave duty than, say, groove clamps on .22 rings.....but good advice, to fire it remotely first.
