Rifle Scope on a Pistol ....Experiment (TMG)

The Meat Getter (TMG), well that is a bit assumptive at this point. I sold one of my last elephant guns (.375H&H) and bought some smaller stuff. One of which is the Ruger 45/22 MarkIII (Catalog# P45GMK3PRRP).

I have Leupold Pistol scopes on some Freedom Arms .454 Casull revolvers, and have always experienced a hardship in finding the reticle at arms length. So I wondered about putting a large rifle scope on a non-recoiling pistol.

I put a Leupold straight 2.5X Compact Rifle scope on the Ruger and it works perfect. It has about 5 1/4" of eye relief and the bolt only blows'back as far as the rear most part of the scope. Procuring the target is quick and easy with a full field of view. On'guard Grouse & Ptarmigan.

You use a pistol on ptarmigan? Can't you just pick them up? They are a pretty stupid bird in my opinion. I've seen them "hide" in plain sight without so much as a blade of grass near them.

There was a time in my area when the metallic pistol shilouette shooters were using TC Contenders with rifle scopes. They held the pistol grip in the right hand and the forend in the left hand and fired the pistol while bent over at the waist and peering through the scope parallel to the ground.

It looked goofey as all get out but they were hitting rams at 200 on a regular basis.

These were the heavy recoiling .357 Herret, 30-30 and 35 Remington pistols.

Didn't Alaskan Survivalist do something like that with a Thompson Contender or some such pistol. Seems like he had three barrels and one or two had rifle scopes?

The MarkIII is a nice gun but is picky about the ammo; I use CCI stingers and minimags. It seems to like them well enough and doesn't dirty up the pistol much.
The bulk junk that comes loose in the boxes is on my Don't-Shoot-List.
