apple wood back scratcher

I carved this back scratcher, er I mean spoon from a chunk of apple wood. I been thinking about carving a notch in the handle for pulling billys from the fire. Need to finish it off too, can't decide between tung oil or walnut oil. any thoughts.

Super job!!! Apple wood is a nice wood to work with. I don't think I'd put tung oil on it if you're going to dip it in food and Walnut oil can go rancid. Don't forget, too, that some folks are allergic to nuts and just a hint of it can give them problems. Wooden spoons, in my opinion, are best treated with food grade mineral oil.

Make sure the oil is warm then rub it into the wood using a lint free cloth. Let it sit for a couple of hours then wipe off any access. I've had some woods raise the grain when oiling and I've just sanded lightly, cleaned and reapplied oil.

Good luck. I really like that. A long handled spoon is a an excellent tool when cooking.

Nice Spoon ,Looks Great Now If you Don't Have Any food Grade Mineral Oil Hit Up your Local Meat Cutter /Butcher We Use it All the Time On All the Equiptment. Just Bring A small Bottle for them to Put it In. I Give it to People for Butcher Blocks and There Bamboo Blocks .

You should be able to find food grade mineral oil and just about any pharmacy. When I was a kid mom would gives us mineral oil and orange juice to keep us running smooth. Well, it kept us running that for sure.
