A “Scout” mount

It looks like there are more than just a few Savage 24 fans here.

My Savage 24J-DL 22LR / 20Ga is my favorite, along with M6, AR7 then theres the 700, TCs, All Lever action, 70 and oh ay the Rugers.

I am having it rechambered into 22 Mag over a 20Ga Then I will have the prefect survival gun, for me.

I like using iron sites but what is it with wisdom and failing eye sight. I need to get it scoped. A fixed X4 power, Weaver.

Do any of you have a “Scout” mount on a gun? Do you like the rig?

I don't know if it counts. I have a LER on one of my Mosins. It's take a second to get my eyeball adjusted because of the distance but once I do it's fine.

So far I have drawn a blank on mine, even the rear sight is kind small and doe not lend itself to a scout scope mount.
Looking at a couple different rear sight set ups, seems they interfere with the break lever, or barrel selector.
I would like to at least come up with a red dot, quick point or some such....wouldn't want it to get in the way of the shotgun function.

For now I just painted the front sight with white, then red fingernail polish, as well as the buck horns.

I have three units with scout scopes, one is a shotgun.

I like them better as field guns than a rear mounted scope.

On a Savage 24 they would not be my first choice due to the versitility of the gun. The last 24 I had I used a large see through ring set with a 4x scope. I had the scope set for .22lr, the iron sights for slugs and I still had good field of view for the shotgun loads.

I have a standard sized Savage M24 that I mounted a peep sight on. It makes the .22 more accurate, but the small aperture does interfere with the hammer-mounted barrel selector. So I use the peep sight without the aperture. All said, this works very well.

On my Camper's Companion, I have replaced the original (cheapy) rear sight with a fold-down version.

Both if these mods work very well.

I find if I paint sights, I use yellow. John Deere Yellow is very bright, and shows up better than orange, especially in poor light.
