You will never walk alone

I had an opportunity over the last week or so to meet a young man and his family, wife and a 5 year old boy. Just by happenstance I found out that he was unemployed through being layed off recently and was hustling odd jobs 12 - 14 hours a day to make ends meet (barely keeping his head above water). He had some storm damage to his house, relatively minor, but financially out of reach for him. A couple of us guys got wind of it and offered to help. The look on his face and his expressions of gratitude brought tears to our eyes. I think my long way around this is, like the title of this post says "You will never walk alone" and I personally feel that all people should do there best to extend themselves just a little bit to help those that are truely trying to do the right thing. What does it cost? A couple hours of your time ? I have been fortunate in that I am in a "place" in life that I can spend the time and a little money to help some one truely in need. And when a person knows they are not alone it sure seems to make their load a bit lighter.
I guess that is enough rambing for today :)

My grand daughter was in a softball tournament yesterday (they won 2nd place!) and before the games started my wife and I stopped for something to eat at Appleby's. As we finished our meal a couple walked in and sat near us. He was wearing a Vietnam Veteran's hat. As we were leaving I placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "I'm guessing 1966 or '67. He looked up at me and said 1967-68. I smiled, shook his hand and said, "Thanks for your service" and left.

It doesn't cost anything to make someone feel good. If all you can muster is a few kind words then offer them up. It does and will come around and often in bounty.

Rick, that is a good example of what I was saying, I bet that brightened his whole day, just a simple gesture makes huge differences. I work hard at getting this through to the kids, a smile, a pat on the back does miracles. It is probably the best "teach by example" lesson you can give.
