Ourdoor outing and kids.

There has been several threads lately dealing with taking kids on various outings, and that is just outstanding.
Nothing beats spending time with your kids, teaching, learning, bonding, sharing experiences.

So does anyone include you child's friends?

25 years ago, it was pretty much understood that if we were heading out camping, canoeing, fishing, even hunting, rendezvous, or even going to a ball game or swimming at the lake....it was children and friend/friends.

I'm sure that it much harder to do these days with lawsuits, fears of pedophiles, food allergies or any number of reasons.

I can tell you that as adults a lot of these kids still seek us out and re-live the good times we shared....They remember!

You bring up a good point. When my kids were young we'd pack everyone in like sardines to go to those places you listed. Saturday and/or Sunday morning it was not unusual to wake up to 10 or 12 kids crashed all over the house. I don't see a herd of kids like that today. Ours was the go to house. I've had kids 7 or 8 years old walk in, go to the ice box, get something to drink and then run back out the door.

"Who the heck was that?" I'd ask my wife.

"I have no idea."

That's happened many times around here.

Doesn't seem to be like that anymore. Maybe we're just detached from it. I don't know.

I don't take other peoples kids on any adventure. The beach, yeah, the woods, NO. I know how my son is gonna act in the bush.

I don't have children, but I remember as a kid that when there was a weekend outing, the entire neighborhood went. I think the parents rotated "chaperone" duty to give the other parents in the neighborhood a break from us all.

That's really sad, especially for the single parent families.

We had attended a "Hunter Safety Course" with a young man who's father we were going to hunt with.
Father lived in Colorado, uncle was one of our group that was going.

As it was a group, even though we didn't need to take the course for our state (age), it's required for many other states, no matter what age, so we all took the course with him.

In the class were many young men that lived with their mothers, and they were all interested in some one to hunt with and a place to go......

One guy, attending with is son, offered a trip to another young man, friend of the son.
Mom just about came un-glued, wasn't happy about the "gun thing" in the first place, but was obligated by the boys father.

I commend anyone that takes the time and effort to extend your love of the out doors to anyone you can help out.

I would be hesitant to even offer any longer my self for the stated reasons.......

Hats off to the Scout leaders and Camp counselors out there.

My son has maintained a friendship with one boy from very early on in his life. When they were young I would take the both of them on campouts and excursions all the time. Near Christmas I would rent a cabin for the three of us to spend time together. I also went through Boy Scouting with them. We had a lot of good times.
