Out for the weekend

This weekend was spent with my girlfriend at Tallulah Gorge State Park. She made a reservation for us to have a "Guided Full Moon Suspension Bridge Hike" We got to have a guided hike by the local Park Ranger Friday night when we were supposed to have a full moon (it was overcast). We didn't get to see all of the features because of the clouds, but we learned some neat stories of how different parts of the gorge got their name and little tidbits of information like why you won't see as many predators or prey around the gorge. He also gave everyone a wintergreen breath mint and explained why you see the spark when you bite down on them. Everyone enjoyed watching these green sparks go off.

Saturday we were registered to have another guided hike to another spot in the gorge but we didn't go because of how tired we were. There would have been 1099 steps we would be taking again. So we stayed in late and spoke to our neighbors a little and then went off searching for some other waterfalls. We ended up going on to two other trails and saw three waterfalls and one cascade. I don't know how far total we went, but we were both sore and sweaty. We got back to our campsite, had dinner and went to bed.

Today, we ate a late breakfast, packed up our site and came back home. It was very nice to get out. We didn't get to do everything we wanted because of getting tired, but there's always next time.

Other than spending time with my girl, my favorite part was probably getting to use my dutch oven. I have never camped like that and ate as well. She already had a rice-pizza crust ready, so she just added some toppings and melted it all together on some coals. I made some cinnamon rolls, noodles in cream of chicken and celery, and biscuits with butter, ham, and cheese. The only meal we had that didn't have some type of cooking was a sandwich before our full moon hike.

Sounds like y'all had a good time a good time.....

Dutch oven cooking is the BOMB as my teenage granddaughter once told me. Now if I could only get her to do the cooking when she is out in the woods with me. :>) Glad you had a good weekend trip.
