A compelling reason to be a good neighbor, and more plugged in your community.

Here's a short excerpt:
" Because of his own experience in Katrina, Aldrich started thinking about how neighbors help one another during disasters. He decided to visit disaster sites around the world, looking for data.

When Aldrich visited villages in India hit by the giant 2004 tsunami, he found that villagers who fared best after the disaster weren't those with the most money, or the most power. They were people who knew lots of other people — the most socially connected individuals. In other words, if you want to predict who will do well after a disaster, you look for faces that keep showing up at all the weddings and funerals.
"Those individuals who had been more involved in local festivals, funerals and weddings, those were individuals who were tied into the community, they knew who to go to, they knew how to find someone who could help them get aid," Aldrich says. "

Good point. Community makes us strong in so many ways. Just stands to reason that it would be in good times and bad. Some of the most generous people that I have ever meant were those that did not have alot, but did have a sense of generosity and sharing. They always seemed to be people that were in a close knit community

It was not the rugged individual that survived the fall of Rome and the "dark ages". It was the members of scattered communities that shaped the organization of western civilization we know today.

The mountain men and longhunters did not settle the frontier, they merely passed through it. Communities of migrant farmers settled the frontier. In many cases they moved as complete social units able to sustain themselves as soon as they climbed off their wagons or flatboats.

B - I'll offer up my reasoning for that. I may be off my rocker but what the hey. Folks that are really social animals tend to be mentally positive. They like being around other folks, look for the positive aspects of a situation and are generally fun people to be around. Those would be huge mental advantages in a disaster of any type.

I completely agree, Rick.
I also know that people gravitate and like to be around positive people. One is more likely to help one than not. I've grown up with it it and nothing's changed even in a place like Gotham.

The Amish are good examples of working together,as a community,to be independent and provide for their needs,strength in numbers
In a true SHTF situation,I believe the Amish will thrive and continue in a successful,independence in numbers,without outside assistance.
