just got a nice little suprise from my dad.

my grandfather had an old .22 rifle that he used to keep in the back of his bedroom closset. when he passed away in 1998 my grandma wanted to throw it out but my dad stopped her cause it didnt seem right to throw something like that away. i was just a little kid at the time and my parents werent comfortable having a gun in the house, so my dad gave it to one of his a close friend who was a collecter. ive been trying to save up to buy a gun for awhile now but having to pay for school it hasnt been easy. well i was out of town all week and got back yesterday to see this sitting on my bed waiting for me. my dad had called his friend up and got the gun back for me. it's a .22 Mossberg 42M. i took it to the gun range earlier today and it shot some really tight groups. as far as i can tell its in pretty good shape the rear sight wont adjust at all for me though. anyway i thought id share this with you guys.

thanks actually did use this site to get two magazines. when i got the gun it was missing the magazine, it must have gotten lost over the years. also with the rear sight i just spent about a half hour working it with some gun oil and now it's adjusting beautifully. ill have to take the gun back to the range this weekend and sight it in.

just an update, the mags came about a week ago and work beautifully. i bought a scope and sighted it in at the range last weekend and now am putting 14 rounds into a grouping 2 inches wide from 20 yards. it's awesome how accurate it is. I'm really looking forward to doing some small game hunting. and hunter63 you are right i think of my grandpa every time i pick it up. i have done some research on it recently and it turns out they shipped a bunch of these over to Europe during ww2 to use for training purposes. mine is a civilian model based on the fact that the receiver is tapped for a scope mount and they didn't tap the military variants. this means my grandpa probably owned it before he joined the army, not as a souvenir of war like my dad had thought. but that is just a guess. i feel like a kid on christmas morning :D
