Animal Stalking
No treestand crap here kiddies.
Before stalking an animal, select the best route. If the animal is moving, you will need an intercepting route. Pick a route that puts objects between you and the animal to conceal your movement from it. By positioning yourself in this way, you will be able to move faster, until you pass that object. Some objects, such as large rocks and trees, may totally conceal you, and others, such as small bushes and grass, may only partially conceal you. Pick the route that offers the best concealment and requires the least amount of effort.
Keep your eyes on the animal and stop when it looks your way or turns its ears your way, especially if it suspects your presence. As you get close, squint your eyes slightly to conceal both the light-dark contrast of the whites of the eyes and any shine from your eyes. Keep your mouth closed so that the animal does not see the whiteness or shine of your teeth.

Stalking can work both ways. I have been stalked many times. Some of the times I've got some great photos. And often it has gotten out of hand.

No, not for beginners, more of a masters game. These are monsters, or appear as such when you are over stalked and laying face down between their forelegs.

I think Beo meant that what he wrote was only one method for beginners, but he can speak for himself. Those are good pointers bro and hermitman's link looks pretty good, too (yes Rick I've started checking out links) I'd caution people to really practice basic track identification first if you're new at this and...don't be surprised if the first few times you try it you wind up with nothing. Learn to read some of the tracking signs you've already read on other posts here. If you see a bull moose or a bull elk who's carrying a ten or twelve point rack...well he didn't get to grow a rack that big by making mistakes.Wild animals...I know I'm going to get some feedback about this...aren't generally smart, what they are and what makes them appear smart is totally attuned to and aware of their environment, so they know what to look for, what scents should be there and what's out of place, and they are very,very careful. It's a life or death thing for them, so they don't have to spend a lot of time cogitating on the careful decision.
