I was finally able to buy an angle grinder. for cutting out knife blanks i can't think of a handier tool in that price range.

It's a little under powered at 4.5A, but it seems sturdy enough, the price was right and with 4.5" thin cutoff wheels it slices right through the stock i have.

The next item on the list will be a drill press. Eventually I might actually have my ducks all in a row.

I scored a few planner blades. Figured I'd make something and avoid the annealing and heat treat. The grinder did fine. Dulled two 1/8" carbide bits. Hardened D2 is some tough stuff.

I bought a $30 chicago electric one, but on impulse i shelled out the extra $10 for an extended warranty. probably could have gotten a name brand one with identical specs for the same price, but i was already at the register at harbor freight.

it did have pretty good reviews, and after cutting some steel with it i can say it doesn't bog down as easily as the few negative ones suggested.

next time i'll try and buy a 10A model, but this one gets the job done.

I use a Dewalt that has been with me for a lot of years.

I have a Dewalt as well, (I used to to like Dewalt a lot, but now are chinese made, like most tools now).
I also have several HF (Chicago brand), Menard's (Tool Shop brand), spread out...... at home, at "The Place", in the job trailer,....set up with different kinda of blades and wire brushes.

Seems that the arbors are different from good tool to cheap tools, sometimes, so they are kinda dedicated to different tasks, pretty much.
Metal cutting/grinding, masonry blades, and wire brushes.

I would have to check the specs for exactness but if I remember right it's about 3000 more rpm. These additional rpms make it ideal for slicing.

I Use the Old HF method I'm On my 4th One Now Just Got one and Within 2 Days I Burned Out the Motor .I'm Thinking it Was Just a Crappy Motor In It . I Use the Grinder for Knives and For Working On the Re-Build Of the Truck Also . Also Sone Got me a Drill Press for Fathers Day Now Just Need a Buffer (Insted of a Buffer wheel on my Drill) and a Saw for cutting Scales.
