The following is a small excerpt from a short essay on "Zero Hedge". I am closing on 65 years of age, and as a leading edge "Baby-Boomer" I was shocked at the boldness of this forecast. Oddly after several rereads, I accept that it is not only inevitable & painful, it is the only way forward.

Denial is NOT a viable method of planning for ones future. I would encourage anyone living on a pension or planning on living on a pension, to take a very careful look at how their plans could be devastated.

Goodbye Boomers, You Have Done Enough Damage

The biggest silver lining to all of this is that the boomers are going to have to go away at some point soon (l have total love and respect my parents but the clinging to power to save a cushy retirement being exhibited by this generation as a whole and their idiotic economic theories is destroying the future of this planet). There is no stopping this and in its wake will be my generation and we have very different ideas of how to do things. This is the single biggest thing that people don’t understand. The “status quo” at the moment consists of the zeitgeist of the baby boomer generation and those of my generation that have bought into their failed ideology. The “status quo” will be swept out to sea and something entirely new must and will arise. Not only will college grads be living at home but so will the grandparents. We will default on all the obligations they made to themselves the minute my generation has a chance to. Whether or not you agree with it, it is what will happen (either via reform or more likely printing the currency into oblivion). Many “star” fund managers today will be completely unknown in ten years or maybe even five. People will ask: What happened to so and so? I can tell you the answer to that right now. They didn’t see the tide changing and were swept out to sea. Legacy is a stupid thing to chase. Just ask Buffett how it worked out for him in a few years.

The economy turns out to be just another pyramid scam. I got in a little late but still above what appears to have been the cut off line where everyone below it is completely screwed. The blame belongs to all of us...We have all bought into this system of things....They have no power we don't give them.

People are waking up to many causes to lay blame but this is all syptematic of what I saw as a young man, "This can't go on forever". It was easy to see the world being gobbled up and we are just begining to run low on stuff. It's only going to get worse but this does not mean we would or should stop clawing out our piece. Sounds primitive. It is and is the nature of man that won't change without devine intervention. The end is coming.

Quite frankly, I have for a long time seen the stock market as a Ponzi scheme. It was one thing when dividends were paid out, but now your profit is based soley on the value of the stock itself which I might add can readily manipulated. It also doesn't help that our money is backed by NOTHING. Gold and silver once backed our dollar and thus it was worth real value. Not any more.

I haven't handled money in at least 12 maybe 13 years, well not more than 75 or a 100 bucks at a time,,,over the years. I know less about "economics" than I do about this computer..plug in and turn on computer, computer doesn't work, throw away, get new computer...yep..on some things, I'm dumber than a sack of hammers.

I just read a thread on another forum that truly disturbs me, and after readin the OP, I'm not even sure I understand what either truly mean.. none the less, Goldman Sachs, "banking/investment firm?"...has been determined by the justice department has been determined "to big to prosecute"...turns out, Goldman is the 5th largest financial institute in the United States, prosecution for thier "wrongdoings", which I also ain't sure I completely understand, would have an "adverse effect on the health of the economy of the United States".

I don't have any idea who or what to blame for this country being "held hostage" by a corporation, but I damn sure think it's way past time for the buck to stop and people and corporations and countrys' be held accountable for thier actions as well as the repercussions of thier actions and let the chips fall where they may.

I am a firm believer in the capitalistic system, as well as the theory of "charging what the market will bear". In my opinion a capitalistic society is based on the honesty and integrity of our fellow man, from the lowliest laboror, giving an honest days' work for an honest days' pay, to the highest paid executive in business, " doing not only what is best for his company, but also what is best for his fellow man". Seems this train of thought has fallen by the wayside or perhaps it has been a foolish ideal by a man who has always considered himself a patriot and a good neighbor.

Capitalism only works when greed is not involved.

Capitalism/ industrialism has always been a greedy venture, in essence that's what defines it and drives it forward. Without greed the capitalist system would fail. Some, or at least one, of our founding fathers had enough foresight to see this and cared enough to try and move America forward in a different more sustainable direction, but, they failed and here we are reaping what we have sown.

I heard a interesting speech the other day by Bev Boughm, a michigan congress person. She said that oil subsidies were started in 1916. I found this odd and that's probably because I'm odd. A few years before 1916 Teddy Roosevelt busted the oil trusts, Standard Oil was on it's knees. Good thing eh? Well fast forward a few years and the american taxpayer is getting handed a bill for oil company subsidies. I find that odd.

I mentioned this because others mentioned capitalism.

Regardless our world revolves around it..Don't pretend to not need it. My "new" homebuilt water heater smoker was derived from it and so are the 3 new knives I am making. I guess the only option is building with stone and dirt and cutting with stone. Me I am going to make the best of what I got!~ There isn't many stones in the swamp.....

The history of the world is the history of capitalistic trade. Traders supplying various goods of all sorts (including foods and grains), to those who wanted and needed those goods to live and prosper, drove cultures and civilizations. If you read history, almost all wars from the beginning of written history, were fought over trade, in one form or another. Fighting over borders, state and country, and adding more land to "the empire," was to protect trade and trade routes.

Traders who were smart, worked hard and were successful, made "profits." Those who were not, fell by the wayside. Same today.

Karl Marx felt that "profits" from capitalism were the cause of all evil and advocated that a government should own all means of production and the government should determine the needs of the people. "From each according yo his ability to each according to his need." In this way, Marx believed, if worldwide communism controlled every moment of every person's life, then there would never again be a war and the world's peoples would all live happily ever after.

We've all seen the result of Marx's ideology. Communism is a failure which has brutalized and murdered upward of 125,000,000 people. Capitalism, warts and all, is still the only system in which men and women can enjoy the fruits of their labor, ambition, determination, and hard work.

I'll stick with capitalism. :thumbs_up:

Capitalism only works because of greed. Nothing wrong with wanting something and working hard for it. It is what built this country.

Greed is when capitalism fails. Greed is the excessive desire to accumulate "stuff" (money, things, power). Capitalism is when the means of production are privately owned and operated to create a profit. In so doing, that profit can be taken out of the company (or means of production) or can be reinvested in the form of wages and capital improvements.

A capitalist that becomes greedy often sees their business fail.
