We're all safe here,but there's damage all around us.Four people lost their lives West of us.
Quite thankful we're ok.

Experts believe the tornadoes that hit Wednesday were likely an EF-3 or EF-4.

Less than .1 percent of tornadoes are EF-5′s.

The tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri last month was an EF-5.

Veteran WBZ-TV meteorologist Barry Burbank said he’s never seen anything like Wednesday’s storms in his 30-plus years of weather forecasting.

“The scope of it is just astonishing, shocking, to see that amount of damage here in New England.”

I was pretty sure I didn't ever remember tornadoes in MA. Guess it won't be long till one hits the Island since all it would take is any one of those storms lasting long enough in intensity to clear the sound. Usually the city gets worse storms than we do out further on the island, but its just a matter of time.

I don't believe they are all that common in your state, but Massachusetts was the sight of the first tornado in recorded American history. Here in California we seldom expect them either, and are not very well prepared. Not too many basements/cellars around.

We get mini tornadoes somewhat often. Not sure what they technically are called, but after a bunch of damage is assessed, it's either credited to downbursts or a tornado. Out towards the city its not too uncommon, had one last year and average a couple a year. Out where I am though, the storms usually have lost energy (not sure if its cause of the ocean), so we don't get the severity that the surrounding areas get. The same storm band that hit Mass, hit us, but we barely got any rain, but the city got hit a lot worse.

The one good thing is that most houses around here do have basements, but i don't think there is any kind of early warning system other than the news and radio broadcasts.

We only got 1/2" hail in Northern MA. The Weathermen kept trying to make tornadoes out of some of their radar info and it just wasn't happening for them up here. Good thing. But had the go bag and stuff in the cellar bulkhead.

Took a ride Sat. about 1/2 hour West of us.The N. Guard was out everywhere.
A few pictures off Rt. 20,Brimfield/Sturbridge line.There's areas with trees and home damage 1/2-1 mile wide.
Glad it took a Northern path and disappeared before reaching us.
Hope the recovery is quick for those effected.
