Ruger Old Army- Black powder/w .45 colt conversion.

Long story behind this Ruger Old Army.

Belonged to a BIL, that had an untimely demise, so I inherited it.

He bought it in 1988, never shot it much, but had loaded it up with 3 chambers- round balls and 3 chambers w/#8 shot covered by a wad.
That must have been in about 1992 or so........So It stayed loaded all these years.

After I got it I was kinda leery about shooting the loaded chambers, contemplated just taking out the nipples and poking out the loads......Didn't want to screw up the nipples as they may have been corroded.

Bottom line was I just, poked a nipple cleaning pick thru the holes, capped it up, and let her loose.
All six chambers fired.....after 20 plus years.

Lately I have started working with it again, so picked up the .45 colt cartridge conversion cylinder.

And did find loads for re-loading .45 colt cartridges, not only with modern smokeless powder, but Pyrodex BP substitute.

So now I have a BP revolver, that shoots .45 round balls, cast bullets, and with the conversion, .45 colt cartridges....That can be loaded back with BP or a substitute....LOL
It's a great life.

Now that is what I call versatility. If things ever get rough, you've got alot of options to feed that smoker. With that conversion cylinder there isn't much you can't handle. Take real good care of her. I am officially jealous :).

Hunter you are indeed a lucky man! The prices of those Old Armies have gone through the roof since Ruger stopped production. They are built like tanks and very hard hitting. You will get alot of enjoyment out of it. And, uh, if the cleaning after each shooting session is too much for ya I'll take it off your hands free of charge.

I am very green with envy! What a deal! Lee makes a bullet mold for the Old Army if you dont want to shoot round balls out of it in it's original configuration. (That mold won't work with the 45 LC cartridge.)

They stopped production???!!!! Damm! I've got 2, one is blued the other is stainless. I've got the conversion cylinders for both. I did want to get one with the fixed sights just to be a little more traditional.

I had a stainless in 44 a long time ago but when I checked regs it was illegal to hunt with a blackpowder handgun so I sold it.
