As a person he was nothing, a symbol, that encouraged terrorism and cruelty. And a "great" symbol he was, he seems to have had to live as a mole, hiding in hole in the ground or always on the run. A great example. May he rot in h**l
Actually, it turns out he was living in luxury near a military academy in a home reportedly worth over $1 million. Hiding in plain sight as it were. It would be nice to skewer him on a stake and display his corpse for a while.

The military says they buried him at sea,so that his grave would not become a shrine, what a great day for America, and the world!

The upcoming 10th anniversary of 9/11 will be more meaningful, that's for sure.
Ironic that OBL was found not in a cave but a compound outside Islamabad considering Pakistan is our ally and were "looking" for him themselves. Perhaps we need to evaluate our relationships with all our supposed friends but especially those in the strategically critical regions of the world.
I'm really glad that Osama has found his final resting spot. Now he can quit running. Just think, 76 more where this baby came from.

Enjoy, Osama.
Oh, I just acquired a picture of a Navy Seal "burying" Osama's finger at sea. I assume the rest of him was buried as well. At least I think it's his finger. Kinda hard to tell from the photo.

No pictures, it didn't happen, right?
There are some pics on the internet purported to be of bin Laden's body. I'm not going to post it here. There's really no need. You can google if you choose. The media is also reporting it was Navy Seal Team Six. Whoever you are, in the off chance that one of you might read this....Thank you!

Congradulation to our American friends, I know that Osamas death does not in any way equalize the pain and suffering for 9/11 but it is a start. May Creator give some peace to you after all is said and done. Spot on to the American military and security forces for their excellent actions and perceverence in accomplishing this task.

Conspiricy nut-job that I am, and having worked with SF many years ago, I do not believe the present propaganda.
My feeling is that Ben Laden died with a bullet through his head before the first bomb ever fell on Afganistan back in 2001. Soon after that some SF sergent collected his $1,000,000 reward, retired and has been living the good life for keeping his mouth shut. Even after 911, assisination of our foes was not accepted practice. We even gave Sadam a show-trial. Assisination has only been allowed, even begged for, since the Lybian deal began.
A convinient falling together of the puzzle pieces. A nice aniversary gift for year ten and a good kickoff for election campaign. Got to show our agressive side, do what Bush failed to do and all that.

Pakistan Army Neutralized
Five minute shootout,35 minutes of gathering Intel(highly valuable,we are acting on some of it now in Afghanistan)
No Americans Killed
Good Intel going in
Flawless execution in a high risk operation
A+ for our armed services,CIA,and Commander In Chief regardless of your politics

But I have to say I sure do hope Intel is still on its toes in case there are any deadman switches out and about. binLaden was out there 10 years and obviously not so isolated as was thought. To me that is cause for pause.

Well if we believe the report, he wasn't assasinated, but rather refused to surrender when told. I would believe that because I know if I were him, I sure as hell wouldn't surrender. I'd rather die fighting than surrender and be executed and he knew that would be the outcome. As for why it was hard to find him, again, if we go by ther report, everyone, including pakistan, was looking in the mountains and in caves. I wasn't expecting him to be found in luxury. A city, yeah, but that one caught me by surprise.
Bobzilla, it was a hell of a lot more than 35 minutes of intel. It was months of gathering intel and learning every person's habits and schedule.
As for the re-election bid, I pray people are smart enough to not attribute this to Obama, but that may be asking a lot....

It was very successful, but not flawless.
The helicopter failing was not good.
I've read several accounts from different sources that said he either hid behind one of his wives or she tried to shield him (different versions). In any case, I guess they went through her to get to him because she died as well.
I can't believe the plan ever involved bringing him out alive. Why would they want that? Where would you hold him or try him that they wouldn't try to get to him? The cleanest, bestestest, version is exactly what happened. One shot through the head and one through the chest. (That doesn't sound like they were trying to take him alive to me. giggle).

The only outstanding issue in my mind is this fast burial at sea.
Their rationale was that according to Islam the body has to be buried within 24 hrs. and they of course, followed protocol.
Huh? All of a sudden we give a flying flick? As though the extremest are gonna give us credit and call the whole jihad off as a thank you for our sensitivity to their religious rites?
Am I the only one scratching my head here?
No, but whatever they did wouldn't it be better to say, oh yeah, we did that right than just to thumb your nose at them? The fly and honey routine.

Ok, given that he is dead, Who is the new Goldstein going to be? Who is the next focus of hate? What are they going to use to instill enough fear in the sheeple to get them to fork over some more of their rights? It all seems kind of anti-climactic to me that in the space of 24 hours, the object of so much negativity is gone with no 'plan' to replace it with something else.

The fact that so many are talking about what they took from the compound and that it is a treasure trove of information is very disturbing to me. Kind of like tipping off the bad guys that we're coming. I would have much preferred that they kept quiet about it and told the world after the fact that it was info from the OBL raid that led to x, y or z.

Here's the way I see it.
We finally located and successfully removed a hard to get to cancerous tumor which has seriously compromised and threatened our life. We removed a lot of cancerous nodes, so we know the tumor has spread, we just don't know how far.
We decide not to follow it all up with the most aggressive round of chemo and radiation (the only known remedy) even though we know that this type of cancer, in such an advanced stage, has probably turned metastatic. It will most likely resurface again in a new part of the body such as the liver, brain, bones, etc, and it's timing is totally unpredictable.
But chemo is such a drag. It can make you sick and tired and radiation doesn't feel too swell either. It'll get in the way of "living" life and cramping our style. So we'll just stick with vitamins, meditation and high colonics. It gives us a feeling of being proactive without having to give up anything. Until something goes terribly wrong again.

I really don't believe the method of delivering information has anything to do with the information, any form of electronic communications could be monitored. The terrorist know what information OBL had,and as the leader of Al Qaeda,he was calling the shots. It would be hard to mount a terrorist operation if you are concerned about your operational personnel being outed by information obtained in the raid. Each cell may not know what the other one was doing, but someone at the top set the cells up.The operation was a complete success and Obama deserves credit, regardless of political leanings. It put pride in our country to the forefront. Our troops are elated, the CIA is proud, and it is a moral boost to the country.Whenever Cheney congratulates Obama,it was a success

I'm gonna have to agree to disagree on this one,Bush layed the groundwork for a lot of things, all I have to do is go to the VFW and see the carnage, for what?
Actually, they did go after him in Tora Bora. The effort was so intense bin Laden wrote his last will and testament in December 2001. Retired Lt. Gen. Michael DeLong, made it quite clear when he wrote in his autobiography that bin Laden was ‘‘definitely there when we hit the caves’. Remember all the political backlash that happened after his book came out?
Delta Force went after him in Tora Bora in December, 2001. Al Qaeda fighters themselves confirmed he was on the mountain because they used unsecured radios so the US had clear channels to listen to everything that was going on. bin Laden himself was on the radio giving directions when they were getting pounded by airstrikes. Why didn't they get him then? Who knows. But I think it's short sighted to look at just one aspect of a massive political/combat front and attempt to make some sense of what happened and to do it without having all the facts.
Getting bin Laden would have been a feather in any General's cap, CIA head's cap and the President's cap. Just as it is right now.

Yeah...but in this case, the trash talking of those policies was so publicized, that taking credit for their results is just...spit in our face insulting. Just how stupid does he think we are? Then again, it appears that some of us are drinking his Kool-aide.:eyepoke:
He has repeatedly made it clear how stupid he thinks we are, all the way back to "rednecks clinging to God and guns" in the election run. He got elected anyway.

I just pray the Intel we got will get more of Al Qaeda operatives and take them apart,I heard the CIA was looking for translators, they must have gotten a lot of data.I would give anything to be at Ground Zero today, what a great day for the USA.He tried to destroy our way of life and killed his own people,it's gonna be a great day!

Know what the last thing to go through Osama's mind as Navy Seal Team 6 burst through the door? A round from one of their guns! Great shooting boys! Screw center mass!
Actually this all started 4 years ago when the CIA spotted a person of interest and followed him around. Two years later he led them to the compound, then, several months ago they approached Obama & told him they pretty sure that OBL was hiding in there. They started making plans that deliberately kept the Pakistanis out of the loop! The failed raid to get him, mentioned earlier, was reported leaked to OBL by someone in the Pakistani Govt. There's no way they couldn't have known who was hiding in that compound! How many 6'6" Arabs that look like him are hanging around anyway? And if I was the idiot who blabbed to OBL about the 1st raid I'd be sweating bullets as we probably found the info on that person as well and know who he is!

As much as I'm glad that this icon of terrorism is eliminated, we all must realize that Al Qaeda is just like the mafia. If you take off one of the heads of cerberus, two grow back in it's place. Now.. I see people selling "Osama Bin Hit" tee shirts online and the only thing I have to add to that, is that making jokes and advertising the assassination of someone's leader will only prompt more hate and antagonistic reactions to us. If you buy one of the tee shirts and wear it "proudly" be prepared to take some of the blame WHEN the next terrorist strike hits somewhere in the US. Don't go poking a sleeping lion with a stick unless you want to get mauled...
And just a moment of pause for all those who've lost their lives in this feeble quest to cut off ONE OF THE MANY HEADS of the beast. They fought for democracy in places that have been at war for as long as we can remember, in a war that they most likely did not believe in. We appreciate all the efforts and our thoughts and prayers are with the families who've lost their loved ones to such laughable tactics.
IMO they should have sent the seals in 10 years ago. This war is slowly crippling our country. I think that says something about how our country (and why) handles it's diplomatic engagements. OBL has been hiding in plain sight for a decade.. in a house that we knew was his all along... Nobody else thinks this is just a little left of center?
(I didn't read the whole thread, just wanted to add my two cents and it's probably already been said)

I was concerned about the Koran burning,I pray that there is no retaliation, but it needed to be done.Hanging Mussolini and celebrating Hitler's death may not have been pleasant, but it gave thousands of people from the concentration camps and carnage, closer. In Terre Haute,IN. there is a holocaust museum that is a must see(no children) for the atrocities. After watching the ceremony at ground zero,I feel like the victims had some closure and so did the U.S.
Thanks,Bob
