One of the things I really like about this place is we don't agree on everything, but we also don't beat up on each other for it. I don't think Y2K has caught on to that yet. Don't start off bashing, painting with a broad brush, and name calling when someone does not see things your way. What works for some will probably not work for all (or in every situation). Jumping into a thread about someone trying to assemble a rifle that will suit their needs (and telling that person how wrong he is) just is not how business is done here.

I mean heck, I don't really agree with Sourdough's choice of .243 in his "Survival" rifle. For what he is trying to do with it though, it makes perfect sense. Really can't beat the .243 youth Handi for being VERY light. Lop the barrel off, place it in a different stock, and you have almost the perfect walk around rifle. Light, quick, and you can place it in a pack easily. Plus, he already has that caliber so it is not another to feed. Y2K pops in with how an AR15 with a .22 adapter would be so much better. Well, for what Sourdough wants, it would not be better at all (at least in my mind). Heck, if Y2K had read a bit, he would know that Sourdough LIKES the AR15 Rock River .223 for a walk around rifle. Just not for what he has in mind with this rifle that he is building.

Please take the time to carefully word your posts. Your insensitivity is disturbing at best. No one here is oppressive or oppressed. Remember that a person’s character is represented by one’s words and actions and your choice of words represent a serious flaw in your character. Please don’t take this as an insult, rather constructive criticism. I am also new to this forum and have been accepted (so far) as a welcomed guest. That’s because they (for the most part) and I are of like minds. It is important to show others the same respect that you would want them to show you. A green thingy (that is a highly technical term) under your name means the mods don't hate you yet. A red thingy under your name means the mods hate you. Two green thingies under your name mean a few more people like you. The more green thingies under your name the more you are liked, or you are a mod and added them all yourself (did I say that out loud). I have always thought Y2K = Y bother. Sort of like a fruit Fly. Small makes noise, persistent and difficult to figure were its coming from.

Before Y2K flames me. I have been honest were my experience or lack of stands. what you may burn may or not be true. I have noting to to prove to a fruit fly. Your posts lack substance and could come from a 10 year old or a 90 year old with big dreams. Your detailed intro and the substance of your posts leave us wondering were you are coming from.

Went back and read all of y2k's posts before I chimed in here. While normally I would keep my opinion on a subject like this to my self, but here I have to make an exception. I agree with crash and sarky. He needs to be banned. He ignored all requests for an intro, he is combative and abusive. It's one thing to harass each other in a friendly way. Buy Y2K is carrying it to far and not in a friendly way. Plus IMO most of his posts are a load of fertilizer.

(y2k's voice) Well, I decided to go to Kodiak Island and land a big brute with nothing more than a .22! I'd bought a little .22 single shot off of a Canadian Mountie for $850 in American currency who swore up & down that it was a great "bear gun!" He said he shot & killed over a thousand bears with it so I couldn't pass it up! On the 3rd day on the island I spotted a huge Kodiak & lined up my sights on it's eyeball, then squeezed the trigger. Unfortunately the wind must of kicked up a bit cuz I missed his eye and the round bounced off of his thick skull, pizzing him off! He charged & I didn't have time to reload so I turned, & ran. What if you have a community strategy and, during an emergency situation, suddenly found a guy like this in your group. Someone always arguing with the designated leader, someone who gives bad advice, someone who is constantly disgruntled. Someone who's a Bedroll Lawyer...

I know what the bravado answer is but looking beyond that. Do you give him his .22 and a 50lb BOB and send him on his way (unleashing a bad thing toward the next group down the road)? Do you send him out with nothing? Do you jail him and feed him and he contributes more than nothing to the group?

I guess the answer lies in what the emergency situation is, doesn't it.

Good question LowKey... I'd say it would depend on the situation... BUT, I really wouldn't want to jail and feed someone that contributes nothing..... and, I really would not feel comfortable unleashing the likes of him onto the next group down the road... by his own admissions, walking around in daylight is asking to get shot..... The "Shoot and Loot" mentality would be a dangerous thing to unleash on your neighbors... I think you would have to take away his weapons... hey, he also admits to not needing a rifle to survive!!
Of course, you can always hope that your neighbors will take him out with 1 well placed shot from a bolt-action, while he is running around with his automatic weapons and 50 lb. pack, dropping prone and bouncing back up again.

I have a friend that is just like this. He tells us what he would do and how we should do this or that.

"You want to know to build a good campfire?" he says as you do.

"You know what you should have done?" he says. Ignoring the fact that your the only one that has had that particular experience.

Only if I depend on him to do something. Like strap down my quad on the trailer before driving 45 miles of bad dirt road. (He didn't because the quads are to big to move around on a trailer! :sneaky2:) Will he ever really be a problem. Because he spends all his time giving bad advice from a base of inexperience. He never really does anything. LOL

He is a good guy and means well. He would give me the shirt off of his back. But, he is not someone to listen to when you need to get it done right the first time.

I just point at a place some distance from where we are camping that has a big downed tree. Later I ask him if he can go get some fire wood. He'll go for the big downed tree every time. So while his is dragging that log by hand or burning trough a rope dragging it on the ground behind the quad.

I just walk around camp collecting all I need and have a nice fire going when he gets back. Hopefully exhausted enough to be just a good friend and not a pain in my arse the rest of the evening. LOL

That is a really good question Lowkey. I could make the decision more complicated by saying he also might have a family with children in your small community. I think I would try and find something that he is good at. There are a lot of jobs in a community that don't require skill, just hard work. If he can't put out, then give him the option to leave. I wouldn't see him as a threat to another community.
