Well after two months of shopping and searching I found a fair deal on a computer that I can watch videos, movies, and even Blu-Ray movies. This computer is 11 years old, so I'll be going high speed baby (relatively speaking). Woopie wow-wow....:w00t::w00t::w00t:

I assume you bought it locally. Did he/they upgrade it for you?

An 11 year old computer...Thats like a steam engine, a sun dial, a overhead projector or a newspaper...Your like a musium curator...I'm actually typing slower right now just so your machine can keep up! Lol! Congrats on the new computer!

I don't know about the modem think, I don't understand any of this. But here is how the phone works. There are (7) houses in this Old Gold Town, we get phone service via Micro-wave thingie, that beams across Turnagain Arm. If the rain is heavy or the snow is heavy it is disrupted. We Pay full price for DSL but because of the Micro-wave reciever we recieve it at 1/2 speed or 100Mbps (what ever that is). I hope it will work, if not I send it back.

Okay, so you dont have dial up...I guess I was thinking of someone else. Your DSL modem hooks up to your ethernet connection on the computer or wireless with a router. It should work just fine.

oops, good point Camp,,, Mine doesnt have an internal modem and its almost identical to what SD Bought ,, He will need a USB Phone Modem,,, 15-20 bucks online.

Ugh,the older one I got after the house burned,and it lasted just over 2 1/5 years,I was NOT paying that much money for something that lasted such a short time again!

The regular phone line plugs into the Paradyne Thingie, and then a Phone type line comes out of that thingie into the computer.

You'll love it! It's not just movies you can watch. a lot of TV channels have their own websites and you can watch tv too! As for Football, you may be able to watch online on one of these TV channels.

By the way SD, that sucker is a screamer. 4 GB of RAM, 500GB of HDD, Dual Core, with a monster screen. I bet it lasts 10 years with you. Okay, at least 5.

SD,, when you get it be sure to do all the set up steps,, It will prompt you through it all, You will need some DVD+R disks to create the recovery files/disks,, It will take 5 disks,, This is VERY important ! If something goes wrong with the computer software, These Recovery disks will revert your computer to its factory condition with regard to all the programming.

We sold, at our estate sale, an old Dell computer, with printer, modem, software, monitor, speakers, everything.........for $20 bucks...and was glad we could get that much.

New stuff expensive, old stuff, gotta pay to get rid of it, most of the time.
SD enjoy the new one, your gonna love it..........

I have to dial a number. But if I was anyplace but here I would be recieving "DSL" at 200MBPS, but because of the micro-wave to this small community it is half of that speed. But I have to pay for full DSL service.

I think it stands for Mill'a-bites per second. I get my service from ACS.com which is Alaska Communications Systems. I only have one choice them or nothing.
