When you live in a city, it's easy to forget that we are surrounded by the greatest show in the Universe: The Universe itself. This sky comparison chart is the sad proof of that.

Sadly, missing the awe-inspiring show of all those planets, stars, and galaxies dancing around us is the price humans had to pay for having observed it in the first place:

There is an incredible amount of truth to that. It's one of the reasons I enjoy getting into the woods as often as I do. I love to just lay and look at the stars. They are so much more vivid in the woods than here in town. Assuming there isn't a canopy of course.

Yeah. I did. It's pretty awesome. It's a whole view of the world we normally don't see. At least not at once. You know, there is a school of thought out there that says time is directly related to perception. A snail's perception of time is much different than ours and that time lapse might be how they actually see the world. It's part of Einstein's Eleventh Dimension, which is an interesting read in itself. In any case, it's a cool vid.

Now, I never been a city dweller, but I have a long commute into the city every day to make that CA$h to feed the family.... I look at my coworkers who have lived there their whole life and think.. " how the hell do you do this?" course, they would say the same of me.

Actually, I love the city and wouldn't trade you straight up. I can enjoy anything my heart desires. My wife and I can dine or dance or take in a movie or art or anything we want. I have the very best of medical care available at a moment's notice. I can choose the woods when I want and the city when I want. Everything is on my terms. How can you not like that?

Well Rick, don't know what city your in.... But me..... I'll visit it any day.... Live there.. No thanks!..Close enough to enjoy the benefits.... But far enough away to decompress in the woods on the water.. I grew up away from the city and can't imagine raising my kids in it!... Hmmmm skyscrapers n highrises or woods and water? I have more to pass to them where I am! But still can be in the big city within an hour!... But hey, to each his own!

Actually, I hate the city and would be happy to trade you straight up. I am content with all that I have in the woods. I can listen to the loons or coyotes, dine on fresh produce and game and pee anyplace I want. I can tollerate the city when I need health care and choose the woods when I want health and it is all on my terms. How can you not like that?

Guess I have the best of several worlds.

I live in a rural area, pasture in front of me, woods behind me, deer playing in the back yard, nice lake 1/4 miler from the house. The neighbors were shooting skeet in the back yard this afternoon. No police cars showed up and if they had they would probably have snagged a burger and joined in the fun.

I can drive for 30 minutes and be in one of the nation's major sewage lagoons with all its conviniences and attractions. I visit the 'burbs once a week to see friends and go through the middle of the urban area only when necessary to pick up ammo at the wholesaler or make a run to Bass Pro.

I don't live IN the city. I just said I love it. I actually live in the suburbs about 20 miles from downtown Indy. We have plenty of corn and soybean fields all around us. But the conveniences are not to be dismissed. Some of which are a huge plus where survival is concerned.

I will NEVER live or visit any large city by choice. I spent my working years in DC, Baltimore, NYC, Boston and every decent sized city on the East coast working mostly at night in the "bad" neighborhoods for the extra cash. My last 11yrs I took a pay cut and went "outside" to get transferred to a rural area, not like where I grew up but close. This Hillbilly will stay in WV or KY and you folks are welcome to the cities and any country except the USA or Canada.

i have lived in cities as large as 4 million-pheonix, which i didn't mind, and cities like dallas, austin, akron,cleveland, which i despised.
in arizona it was an easy drive to the desert or mts to play and i used to love sittting out in the middle of nowhere looking at the stars, i used to say it was so bright you had to wear sunglasses, a bit of an exageration but you get the point.
now i cannot imagine livivng in a city, up here i have lived in towns with no stop lights, some just a blinking light, now just a one stop light town, and even then i don't live in that town.last night and many nights i just sit out back by the horse barn and stare up at the stars, last night i had a nice fire going illuminating the pasture where my babies was contently munching away and listening to red steagall enjoying a hot coco w/bailey's
now that is satisfaction

uhg. i hated phoenix. i had a lot of good times there; probably more than my share, but the climate was oppressive, the people where in perpetually bad moods whenever the weather was oppressive (i've never seen that amount or extent of road rage since) and it smelled horrible.

after being gone for a while, i took a greyhound through and had a stopover. having been cooped up on the bus for a while, i couldn't wait for a cigarette. after getting out and lighting one up, i quickly found that the level of smog made it redundant, and went back inside.

I recently started college in the city

went from living in a semi rural place with 300 acres of woods surrounding me on 3 sides

to living in a city with sirens and cars going by 24/7
the sky is orange from the light.

im not a big fan of cities.

Well, I adapted with bells on. Not ideal (don't know where it is, if you're gonna be honest about it) but pretty damn exciting.
On the balance, this is the cat's meow for me. 80% great, 20% I miss my own land and solitude.
No regrets about being here though. Lots of career opportunities, range of culture and cuisine and a feeling of being in the center of the universe. (2-edged sword)
Now if I could also have a shack in Wyoming I'd think I died and gone to heaven.

Eat all the colors...the worst that can happen is you'll get a little colon cleansing. And who couldn't benefit from that?

Rick, I grew up in NYC back when it was civilized. The bums were polite and you HAD to go to the bad part of town to get mugged. Oakland, CA has 450,000 (I can't even call them all people) inhabitants. And if half of them were culled that would only be a good start! You might ask who I would start with for the culling....
