So I guess I'm confused, by the "S&w M&p"?
Models? types?

Did some looking up and found a bunch of stuff on S&w M&p, but doesn't really say what it/they is/are.
So I guessing "S&w" stands for Smith and Wesson, and maybe M&p for "Military and Police"?

The early Smith and Wesson Military and Police weapons were the .38s like I posted above. That one happened to be my uncles that he used on the Salem, OR police force.

OK H63 time for another history lesson.

In 1892 the army adopted a side swing cylinder revolver as government standard. Chambered for the .38colt cartridge it was a big flop due to lack of power.

Army calls for replacement and S&W comes out with the Hand Ejector model in 1899, chambered for the .38special, quicky named the Military and Police. We call it the model 10 today. 6,000,000 made for military, police and civilian use in numerous calibers, but mostly .38 Smith and Wesson Special.

These guns have served in every war, in every climate zone since 1900. I would suspect that every serious handgunner over the age of 40 has at least one M10, or a K frame variant, in the house.

Marketing at the big works has decided to tap into the performance history of the origional and started naming everything that comes out of the factory a M&P.

It just ain't working!

An AR platform is not an M&P, neither is a .22 rifle and I don't care how many rounds is in the mag a renamed plastic Sig is not an M&P!!!

For some of us an M&P is, and always will be, a double action Smith and Wesson revolver made out of steel and shooting a real cartridge with a rim on it!

I think S&W is catering to a group that is easier to fool and has lower expectations than previous generations of shooters.

Smith & Wesson seems to lack quality control. I have had some that were as good as gun could be made and others not so much. I always evaluate each individual gun with S&W even of the same model.

Tractor, did someone say tractor? I need a tractor! I would settle for a small blue tractor, or a small green tractor, I'm not picky.

Reminds me of a time long ago when Uncle Sammy sent me to a land far away to watch how other people fought their wars. I was taken to visit a kibutz (?) where sweet young things were helping work the farm on big red tractors. Each one had an AK in a fender scabard and a S&W revolver in a flap holster, which made a very nice outfit with their cut off jeans and tee shirts.

AAAAH, the good old days. Age does strange thing to one. Now I would probably notice the tractor first.

After being raked over by us old codgers he realized he did not actually have an M&P and withdrew the question.

Things have gone way too far when you must specify WHICH M&P you are speaking about.

Now somebody get into the names to numbers and then the numbers with the dash and another number as Chief's Special to Mod. 36 to Mod. 36-4. Only one example. Can't knock older S&Ws, almost choked when I saw my first one with a lock built in. I still carry my 36 or 60 in warm weather.

I have a M&P 9 full size and a 9 compact. I have had great luck out for them. I hold smith in high regards as a us gun maker that will stand behind there products. Take a look at http://mp-pistol.com/boards/ for a lot of good info. Luke

LOL Rick, same here for me (The Orig M&P) this is my very well used 1926 S&W M&P .38 spl, it is my fav indoor range gun and is often on my hip when I am at my woods in western PA.
