Looks like the Euro continues to rise and the Chinese are increasing their bank reserves. I know you really don't care. I just wanted to say, "Looks like Monday could be interesting."

The "Euro" is crashing.........1.2385 to the US$, European Banks DOWN 10% just today, so far. Monday should be interesting.

Ofcoarse the markets are going up. We are giving them our money. We are even paying for the bailout of Greece through the IMF. It's too late to care, all they are doing is postponing the enievitable while the NWO is finalizing its plans. I watch just to guage the rate of decline. Money valued against other money makes the numbers look better than they are since it is all in decline. Measure against gold ( over 1200 an ounce) and you get a better picture. There is no end in sight. Money is debt, the promise to pay. The more they have the deeper in dept we go. They don't just want more, they want it all! Don't worry about though, there is nothing you can do about it.

Combine this with peak oil (and peak everything else) and you will see why I became a "Doomer" interested in survival. Do the math. It's an exact science. They complicate it only to conceal the truth.
Hokey Crap. What gloom and doom. It's another business cycle not the end of the world. Folks have been predicting the big one since Hector was a pup. At least no one said there was a UFO behind Haley's Comet. :)

AS - Sourdough and I have had this conversation before. Why do you say measure it against gold? The price of gold is just an arbitrary number set by the London Gold Market and overseen by the Bank of England. It's no more realistic than the "price" of any other commodity. If a government chooses to the set the price at $10 a pound then that's the price. I'm always amused that folks will lambast the U.S. dollar because the value is not real. It's manipulated. Then turn around and wax philosophic over the price of gold that is price fixed by the same folks running the world's banks.

Rick, I am not a proponent of gold. I mentioned it only as an indicator. Gold, glass beads, dollar bills, does not matter that much. Did you watch Money as Debt?

Yes, I watched it or part of it. I guess I don't understand your concern. The fact that banks don't have 100% cash to back up 100% loans? You might also want to look up some of the quotes he uses. He's taken some out of context.

I watched all of, part II also that brings it into todays situation. It is fundamentally two pronged. One is that if banks create the money and the money needs to be paid back with interest, where does the interest come from? That and the concept of an expanding economy in a finite world. The bundling of debt and being sold has speeded up the process by not removing the principal from the money supply. It's not if, it's when. Business cycles are discussed in part II. To me a business cycle is like watching it swirl down the drain. I watch Niel Cavuto, Bloomberg News and listen to Money talk on the radio at work. This is not what I want to believe. I have 100 shares of CIRI, A pension with the western conference of Teamsters and another in local 959 and even my PFD depends on the market. It greaves me to see money I set aside for my retirement become worthless. I would have blown it all if I knew then what I know now. The only real progress I have made is what I have built with my own hands and all I count on for the future. When I look back all I have seen is a downward spiral with a few bubbles here and there that always burst. A few may do well but thier numbers are getting fewer each day. All the talk in the world will not change the fundamental flaws in this system. Start watching comodities and the Baltic index and you'll see it coming and think global. The whole planet is broke!

A very knowledgeable friend once said, "The fear and pessimism that comes with every economic down-turn provides for some great opportunities." I couldn't agree more. There is money to be made in every economic cycle. You just have to know where to look. I've posted many examples of how to make money in this economy over the past several months.
Oh, AS, to answer your earlier question...My preps are for 1. natural disasters such as fire, tornado, prolonged severe cold or heat or winter blizzard and 2. Man made disasters such as chemical leak, meth lab, etc.

I ran into a little snag in my plans for my up coming Yukon river trip so I said no problem I will just go pick up a larger outboard for my Zodiac to make it back up river and meet you there. One little problem though, checking on prices the same outboard that I did not want to spend 1500 dollars on 3 years ago cost over 3000 today! I remember when candy bars were a nickel, a pack of cigaretes a quarter, a gallon of gas 20 cents and water was free. Do you realize that a year ago all the US money in existence a year ago was 1.7 trillion. Everytime they say a trillion on TV....well you do the math. You don't have to be an economist to see the direction this has been going or know that the decline is accelerating.

When I started smoking :sneaky2: cigarettes had just gone up to 27 cents a pack. I remember gasoline "price wars" with competing stations across the street from each other going as low a 9.9 cents a gallon. A six-pack of Schlitz was under a buck. Dunkin Donuts were 69 cents a dozen. Two burgers for a quarter, fries were 7 cents, and a medium coke was a dime. Complete gourmet meal for 42 cents. :innocent:
And things just got a helluva' lot worse. :sneaky2: Have you noticed that Slim Jims have gotten much smaller recently? Have you noticed that the small boxes don't contain 5 Slim Jims anymore? Now there are 4 to a box. :sneaky2: I wonder if they've cut back on the 100 ct. boxes as well. :innocent:

Yeah, and cars didn't have airbags or seat belts. You watched TV in black and white. Microwaves were used only on the DEW line. We lived in threat of nuclear annihilation each and every day.
The reason those candy bars and outboards cost more is because the folks that make them have gotten a raise or two since 1938. Raw materials have increased, too because folks creating them asked for more money. I think GM just got their hands slapped because they stupidly let union contracts rule their business sending them into receivership.
If you only look for bad stuff every single day then before long all you see is bad stuff. It's called a scotoma; a blind spot in your vision and it's very real. Again, I've posted on this in the past.
Here's how it works. We are bombarded with tons of sensory input every second. There is no need for the brain to process all of that because it isn't necessary. So the only thing we consciously see are those things important to us or those that represent a threat. Here are some examples. You drive through town on a frosty morning heading to the local cafe. When you get there, all the parking spots are full so you are looking for any sign that someone is leaving. Exhaust, a head in the drivers seat, backup lights, anything. Care to guess how many cars like that you passed on the way to the cafe and didn't notice them? It wasn't important until now. OR... ever drive down the road half asleep and have something, even a leaf, blow across in front of you and scare the bejeesus out of you? Yeah? Me too. That's because at that moment the brain recognized it as a possible threat.
The same is true with the news we read and watch. We believe everything is good or bad so we look for only that which is portrayed. Then we say see? Look how good or bad it is. And that becomes justification for how we see the world. Self fulfilling. That's just how we as humans operate. It's served us well for hundreds of thousands of years but now, instead of a Saber Toothed Tiger behind every bush the only thing we have to fear is hordes of bad guys or the end of the economy or the government taking over everything.
We have to force balance into our lives. If you are a gloom and doomer then you need to read positive articles (yes they are out there. you just don't see them, remember your scotoma). If you wear rose colored glasses then you need to read (shiver) Goldprice.org or circlesoflight or some other end of the world write up just to gain some balance.
Think it's all hooey? Okay, but you're going to see a LOT of red pick up trucks this week just because I said you would. (snicker) You just watch.

Slot machines in Las Vegas use a similar mind trick. Loose, loose, loose, win, loose, loose. It adds up. Since free trade wages have to keep pace with chinese workers. Some people are making more money, just not most of us. The rich are getting richer and the rest of us shop at Walmart.
I doubt the UAW or IBEW bargaining committee examines the wages Chinese workers are making in order to negotiate a contract. If fact, I can tell you from experience it doesn't happen. Or any other country.
Gotta agree with the slots, though. Just like the lottery. Statistically, you're a loser when you walk in the door.

Been a Union man for 36 years and they sure use it to jam bad contracts down our throats while the union gets more and and more. The world is fighting for an ever shrinking pie. There are winners and losers, but the less pie there is the more losers there will be. The big picture. It's undeniable.
We'll just agree to disagree again. I see it just the opposite.

And while I'm fired up before I go do my part for the NWO that "our grandchildren will be paying for this" is misleading. That implies we won't be. The money will be pulled out of the system as fast as it can bear it through taxes, interest rates and inflation. That's how it works. That will not cover it all but will be more than enough to sell us into debt slavery and all future generations. Agree or disagree does not matter though. What's going to change this coarse we are on, green shoots, wind mills?

It's everyone's fault. We elect our executives and legislators, and then they give the farm away to public sector employees and private interest groups.
When someone finally realizes that we're broke and can't afford to maintain all these social programs or have millions of unnecessary barely productive government workers receiving bloated salaries and incredible benefit and retirement packages that almost everyone in the private sector will never receive, the courts chime in and order that we continue down the road to ruin.
Government employees and liberal free-spending social programs are the cause of most of the problems facing Greece AND the United States.

On the other hand...we've gotten fatter and it ain't because the candy bars, burgers, donuts and Slim Jims have gotten more expensive and smaller.
50+ years ago no one talked about super-sizing or all-you-can-eat deals, or using buckets instead of bowls to eat from.
In fact, relatively speaking, the food has gotten cheaper which is why a lot of people just default to junk. It's just cheaper and quicker to buy it than to prepare it yourself.

Folks tend to forget that someone has declared the end of the world since time immemorial. There are any number of events that can be pointed to for justification; Pompei, Bubonic Plague, the Naple's Earthquake or the Shanxi Earthquake, the Indian cyclone of 1737, Mt. Tambora, Great Chicago Fire, San Francisco Earthquake, the Great Tri-State Tornado, the Great Depression, two world wars, the December 2004 tsunami. Need I go on? You can look at radical events throughout history and say, this is it! This is the big one. And it never is. The economic cycle is no different. Folks are saying this is it. This is the big one even when signs of recovery are all around them.
Even if it were to degrade into a world wide depression the world would not end. It would eventually recover. And anyone that thinks they are immune because they are off grid is just kidding themselves. We are all humans. We are all connected. What you do affects me and vice versa. The only thing we have to fear is Karma. (thought I was gonna say "fear itself" didn't you? Okay, that too.)

I did state that it would not be changed and denial for too long is large part of why. As long as a person prepares it makes no difference what is thought since the solution or at least the best you can do is in place.

The global economy is collapsing, some say it is being done purposely. If the US removed itself from it and protected its market and its borders we would do better but the the rest of the world would still fall into kaos or join the NWO and spill over in either case. States may try to preserve some soveriegnty but half measures will not succeed. Some communities may try to survive forming self reliant, sustainable life boat communities but they to will have to deal with being over run by the rest of the world. Then you get to the survivalist that has it in his mind to take care of himself and will still have to contend with the rest of the world. The have nots are being used to take control being misguided by "fairness". When the world becomes fair there will not be enough for anybody. Do you realize that if you make 30,000 dollars a year you are in the top 7 percent of the wealthiest people in the world. How much less would it be to make it fair to everybody? People starve and have to go without and I don't like it but my overiding principal is "Better you than me".

Euro was at lowest since April of 2006.
It will drop till it is PAR with the Yankee Dollar.
The reason it dropped is because Germany stopped short sales. It will rebound.
AS - (shaking head). Let's look at this way. In the last 200+ years the United States has suffered through 47 recessions and six depressions. The economy rebounded from everyone of them. In fact, we just completed the largest boom on record. Now, in that same time frame, how many times did the economy go belly up and the world as we know it end? Soooooo. Which do you really think lays in our future? Another recovery or the end of the world?

No. I think what I'll slide into is something less paranoid than I've been seeing around here lately. It's one thing to post opinions. Everyone is entitled to them. But a lot of folks are posting stuff with no sources or references listed. The sad part is there will be folks on here that will buy into them based only on someone's opinion. At least I try to post my sources. I think I need a break. Maybe the world WILL end in the interim and everyone can say I told you so.

The source I am in most agreement with for economics is Glen Beck. Does that make any difference. Most everybody ackowledges the consequences of debt and global financial collapse is at risk. Who does not subscribe to that? I know some have different levels of forboding but non paint a rosy picture for the future.
