It's so they know where to redraw the district lines. You see, if you can draw the lines so that a bunch of the same demographic people make up the majority of a district, and then cater to that demographic, you get the person that you want voted into power. Then you get enough of those district's drawn up, that you have a majority in gov't. Then you control the money, and can take from some, and spend it on programs for those districts, and those people will keep voting you into power. As long as you can buy votes with someone elses money, you can have the power to do what you want.
Oh...and by the way....if you have your friends do the counting, and then take control of adding up all the totals, you can pretty much insure that the numbers and lines will fall into place, just like you want them to.:innocent:

The census is a constitutional requirement to the government. I did not think it was required that you answer. It is your choice if you do not want to be represented.

From the web: The Constitution requires that the number of members each state sends to the U.S. House of Representatives be based its share of the nation's population. Article I Section 2 of the Constitution further specifies that the number of seats in the House (as set by the Congress) are to be distributed proportionally among the states on the basis of a census to be conducted every ten years. A census of the United States population has been conducted every ten years since 1790. No other nation has such a long history of collecting detailed information about its population and other important demographic characteristics. It is being used for so much more than that now. It infuriates me to hear the commercials on TV and radio on a daily basis about how we need to cooperate with the Census in order to get our fair share. FAIR SHARE?!?!?!?!?!? That is not the job of the Government. It is up to each and every one of us to get off our duffs and earn what we want, not take it from our neighbors at the point of a gun! End rant.

Yeah, I had this conversation with a friend who said that he liked the idea of taking more from the wealth and giving it to middle class and the poor.
I asked why.
He said because they have so much more than us!
I said, well, you have a nice house with a pool and more room than you need. You have a nice ocean boat and two freshwater boats. You have three motorcycles and a quad.
Don't you think you should act on your own beliefs and sell some of what you have to help the less fortunate?
He stuttered, then said he would sell his ocean boat and buy a smaller one to help the poor. LOL
Fact is he thought it was a good idea when it only applied to those that made more than his household and he would benefit. Once it hit his pocket he STFU.
His wife is the bread winner in his house and he makes about $11 an hour. His wife disagrees about giving away they money they earned. LOL
Hope that isn't too political for the boards. If so delete it...

I believe those questions are being asked in order to see how much additional tax revenue could be collected if an imputed income tax is passed to what you would be paying. In other words - if you worked your butt off and payed off your mortgage - oh, and let's say your mortgage payments were $750 a month. There have been bills (haven't garnered too much support) for a number of years that would say because you have paid off your house it is like you have an extra $9,000 a year in income. (remember - you worked you butt off to get debt free) There are some that want to tax that $9,000 that you didn't have to pay - to make thing faaaaaair.:flare::flare::flare:

I was just being a smart arse. I don't think the fed gov't needs to no anything beyond how many people live there. That's what the constitution says they are supposed to count. All that other stuff, is for manipulating gov't handouts, that for the most part, I don't agree with.

So what info do they need? I agree with counting the people. That's what they are supposed to do. Will that info take care of what you listed above?

It's important that you answer all questions, especially the even numbered ones.

55 million dollars in postage. Another 72 million dollars in labor costs (taking into account the sending end and delivery end). The look on the census bureau person that reads the fawning note I return with mine - priceless.

I will add - it is far from free. To save money in the 90's, the promises of healthcare came with some purse strings attached.

I had the opportunity to talk to a former Russian about the life over there. She said " You have to live with someone because you can either pay rent or eat, not both. She also said you will stand in line for hours, to buy groceries, pay your electric and/or gas bill". Just imagine the health care program!

Yeah, it wasn't free for my dad either. It cost him 18 months in Europe ducking and slinging lead. But when he got sick the VA treated him like gold. I really have nothing but praise for them.

My Dad was a cook in the Army, But thats beside the point I guess,, He had to go to the VA hospital in Vegas every few Months, from here its about 90 min drive, They even sent a shuttle down to AZ and hauled a bunch of them up there, :)

Not all veterans get free health care. They now get TRICARE and they have to pay copayments which are about to go up.
