According to the law. IF you answer the door for them. The ONLY question you have to answer is the number of people who reside at your address. Any other questions are optional if you answer them or not. Personally I won't be home when they come.

This info is to be given on a "need to know basis". IMO the Gov doesn't need to know how many tv's or whatever I own. They want to know this info so they can guage how much more of YOUR money you will be "FORCED TO DONATE" (aka taxes) to those who DO NOT WORK for a living. While it does strike a rousing tone. Perhaps you should visit the website of the speaker. JerryDay.com. It is a video production house. And with a brief review of the site, I found nothing that would authenticate, or even show a body of work by the speaker that would give me an idea about his knowledge of the subject. While some or all of what he says may be true, I am hesitant to run off into the night based on one video. It is indeed thought provoking, so I will be doing some research on the subject.

if the questions were to better our society, myself and loved ones included, I'd have no problem answering. But, What are the questions really used for? And which part of society will they be benefiting? And, can we trust the people who will be using and storing this information?

That's the biggest issue here, IMO. The Census is specifically to find out how many seats each state gets in the house. The higher the population, the more house seats the state will receive. The problem is, that like others have said, all they need to know and are constitutionally supposed to ask, is how many people are living in your home. This makes one wonder what they are doing with the other information they are gathering.
The Census isn't supposed to be used for anything other than House seats.

I don't think anyone is saying that it's a conspiracy, but asking legitimate questions. Our Constitution clearly says that they are to use the census to allocate congressional seats, and allocate funding. If I'm a single mother, does that automatically make me someone who needs funding? No. That's the type of question that's being asked...and honestly you NEED to ask questions in order to understand what's going on because our politicians haven't exactly been top-notch lately. Personally, if I need assistance, I apply for assistance. Those programs have a funny way of leaving a rather easy to follow paper trail that should be used in order to support an areas social services. We know how dishonest people are...now we're going to take their word for it? Eh...I don't know, but that's just me...LOL!

Sadly these "tin foil hat wearers" are the only ones that will put things out there in a way to get people to stop and ask questions now days. I can only speak for myself here, and only from an English person's point of view, but I really do take offence to the govt poking their noses into my private life and how I choose to live it. That's the problem I have with a census, and nowhere does it say the majority of answers are optional. I've had a quick look at the 2011 proposed census questionnaire and it's only just short of asking what colour knickers I'm wearing!
Also the idea of all that information being used and abused by statisticians of the day to introduce new policies does not fill me with glee.

GC I can speak a bit of French if that helps. I've looked into emigrating to the U.S (legally) and I need a job, a sponsor, and a minimum amount of set up money to be considered. Rightly so, U.S immigration laws aren't easy to comply with. I'm not sure whether age is a factor too.

IMO alot of the programs you stated definately mismanage the money they already get. I sure don't want to help them dip into my pocket any further with a census that is molded around taking from those who work for a living and give it to those able bodied, lazy, slackers of society who don't really need it. If all of the able bodied people in this country would pull their own weight, we would not need such an invasive census to "redistribute" our money. "There are no jobs"....Bull Sh*t. All these illegals from Mexico seem to find jobs. People of this country have become spoiled by their own society and rely on hand outs rather than hard work. Jobs are there to be had but most folks don't want to work that hard. They expect to start out a new job as the "manager" instead of the "cook" because the Gov has trained them that way. When a slacker can make more money living off of Gov assistance than they can holding down a minimum wage job, something is wrong with that picture. And this is also just my opinion....If you want to vote, LEARN ENGLISH!!!!!!!!! Every body else prior to 20 years or so ago had to learn English as this country's primary language. Would you move to Sweden without first learning the Swedish language? And if you did do something as ill thought out as this, do you think that the Swedish Gov is gonna give you money to learn Swedish? Just saying. Take care.

Yeah. Massachusetts used this information when planning the "Big Dig." Massachusetts is using it again to determine the best way to impose a road-mileage use tax on everyone - seems like they're leaning toward an RFID chip in all safety inspection stickers so that they'll know EXACTLY when and where you've driven to and from - all recorded in permanent government databases for tax purposes only, of course. :innocent:

Hold the grants and lower the taxes. Nobody from the government has ever shown up to unclog one of MY toilets or to fix one of MY leaking faucets, even back when my income was much lower and I had a wife and three kids to support - back when I paid $1,000 for a car because that was all I could afford and refused to saddle myself with a car loan.


I sincerely believe that we, as a society, have an obligation to provide "safety nets" for those who are truly unable to provide for themselves, including children, the elderly, and the disabled. I have no problem with unemployment insurance for people who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. However, the BOTTOM LINE is that government is way too large and is providing incentives for people who simply choose not to work or to otherwise to live far beyond their means without making any reasonable personal effort to support themselves.

For example, Massachusetts started a program last year that "encouraged" individuals receiving "Transitional Assistance" (Welfare) to become employed. People who received Transitional Assistance who secured employment were allowed to continue to receive welfare benefits while they "tried out" their new jobs. They were ALSO GIVEN CELL PHONES WITH FULLY PAID ANNUAL PLANS; CARS WITH A FULL MAINTENANCE PACKAGE AND PAID INSURANCE FOR ONE YEAR; FULL MEDICAL INSURANCE COVERAGE; and other benefits. And guess what - if they QUIT THESE NEW JOBS FOR ANY REASON, THEY STILL GOT TO KEEP THE CAR, CELL PHONE, and the rest of the benefits. Now that's a lot of incentive to stay employed, ain't it? :sneaky2:

And the whole English language issue drives me up a wall. We speak English here. If you want to speak only Greek, stay in Greece. If you want to speak only Khmer, stay in Cambodia. Why should WE subsidize people who refuse to learn English? My grandparents all arrived here from Europe between 1900 and 1910. There were no "English-as-a-Second-Language" programs or free adult education or Voter Assistance programs. They all learned English on their own and all became citizens without any form of government handout.

Free Adult Evening Classes? I worked 40 - 60 hours a week to put myself through school. Nine years of college and grad school, honors graduate, and never a single penny in government grants or tuition credits. I waited 10 years longer than many of my high school classmates before I bought, or could afford to buy, my first home. And by then, the price of a home had quadrupled.

It's called having "priorities."

And guess what? People with DIFFERENT priorities chose to purchase fancy new cars with hefty car loans. Others chose to spend weekends at the casinos or at nightclubs snorting coke or going away on a vacation every couple of months.

People generally can't afford nice homes when most of what they earn goes up their nose in the form of white powder. And those people don't deserve to have a nice home handed to them, either.

Am I referring to the widow with 3 kids whose husband was killed by lightning? No. Am I referring to the family whose breadwinner was stricken with a debilitating disease? No. And I'm not referring to the genuinely mentally or physically disabled, the elderly, or the children, either.

I'm referring to the scores of bums that I know who live in subsidized housing because they are "disabled" but always seem to be able to work out a couple of hours a day at the gym before they head some place to conduct a little "business" before they head off to a sports bar with their friends and their "baby-mamas." It's bullsh*t.

I totally agree. I've seen it all and it's actually worse than you said. If you ever actually worked or moved to keep a job looks like we were stupid. I worked, went to schools every year just to keep up with what I did, moved many times just to keep a job. I couldn't hire anyone to work last summer, labor was beneath them and the fear of losing their Govt. checks. I waited in line the first of the month to pay for a small item behind people cashing and spending money on luxury items, got so mad I LOUDLY asked the cashier if they took CASH. I didn't win a popularity contest.

The homeless are basically a pawn to raise money when someone or some entity out there wants more,once they are no longer useful,i.e. the money stops coming in,they are swept back under the rug.

I know a few people who were denied government benefits (foodstamps,medicaid) because they had no address,they were told to come back once they found a permanent place to live.

I guess they don't have to help people out if they don't count them?
