I received an email from hp/Compaq to please fill out a survey for there customer service tech support so that they may grade the performance of there job and to see if my needs were met.
Well I'm guessing they didn't like my answers, I was honest and stated that there tech support had no idea what was wrong and that the only way to fix it was to reset my computer to factory settings.
I went on to explained that , that was unacceptable and that with the help of a geek tech forum and a free program I was able to resolve my problem on my own in 20 minutes compared to the 1 1/2 i spent on the phone with tech support.
It wasn't 20 minutes after hitting send on the survey that I was getting a call from the Head tech at HP, he asked me exactly what was the original problem and what did I do to resolve it.
So I explained it like this, I first removed Norton anti virus, and installed AVG free, it scanned and removed 4 viruses that had hijacked my Registry setting for my wifi, I then went to a geek tech site and found a solution with very good instructions that worked flawlessly on restoring the settings.
he said oh well what you did was very dangerous it could of really messed up your computer by going into the registry like that that is why we dont mention that, So I said oh and then I would of had to do a factory reset on it, he said Well yes, I said HEY DUH THATS WHAT YOU WANTED ME TO DO REMEMBER SO NOTHING WOULD OF CHANGED.
he Said they will be reviewing there tech support methods and is it ok if I am contacted again. Cant wait for the next call im board anyway.

That's amazing. I would have never suspected that anyone associated with HP tech support speaks English. :innocent:

Off topic a bit.
I have recently started to refuse to talk to anyone on a telephone help line (computer, banking, ect) unless they were clearly a native english speaker. When I call or recieve a call and the voice is heavily accented, I tell them that I want to speak to someone who speaks english, I get the usual BS that they speak english, but I am insistent and eventually get transferred to a US or Canadian based operator. I also always ask the caller or call taker in ever instance if they are in the U.S. and f the answer is no, same drill as above.
Just my little protest against "off shoring" the work.
A little hint, if the heavily accented person says their nameis Bill, Mike, Susan or Kelly , they are an "off shore" operation.

The very first call went something like this. helamynamisabutankyoufarcallinHPtecsuppat ( all in one word no pauses I swaer and I spelled it like it sounded).........MY response CLICK.....redial ...... second call at least I could understand him and he actually took a breath between words, the guy that called me today had a hint of an accent but very clear and easy to understand. so that dosent bother me too much.

Any more it goes something like....Hahlo my nam is Peter.....yeah, right. I really hate to speak with an off shore support group. First, I can't hear anyway and trying to decipher a heavy accent just makes it worse. Second, dang it, it's my nickel and I want to talk to someone that uses English as a first language.
And.....I don't have to know how a power plant works to flip on a light switch so why should I have to have a computer engineering degree to keep my pc running?
And....(while we're at it) is it just me or does anyone else do a slow burn when you call in and it says, "For English press 1". Let me check my map again. I could have sworn I lived in the U.S......

I don't press 1. I just wait for it to continue in English. Or the operator to pick up.
My grandpa always said no one ever catered to him when he got off the boat from Italy.
Try ordering a coffee at the drive thru of a Dunkin Donuts sometime.
If somebody answers your call and it's obvious that they're in India or some similar place, and you wanna' have some fun, respond in a foreign language. I've tried Klingon and Romulan and they both work fine........ :innocent:

Coincidentally, they'll give you the same answer as if you asked in English --- they don't understand that either.
