    Default Cob Domes

DW was watching her weekend HGTV, DIY and the other "build stuff in a hour" programs ....and I caught a program of building a dome covered in "cob"....clay mud, sand and straw.....
    This was the end product...

Built in an hour?! (just yanking yer chain!)

Kinda cool, but kinda reminds me of something from fiction like "Lord of the Rings" or similar. Maybe suitable for something unique as far as "tiny houses" go. What was the inside like?

I always liked cob. As a material...how it can be worked, how you can make it, and how surprising it is what you can do with it. There are multiple-story buildings all across the world, built with non-cementized cob (and even no other structural members), in humid rainy areas that have been continuously lived in for a century and even longer - haven't washed away or crumbled.

Somewhere in Florida south of Tampa I saw a lump of cob that was the remnant of one of the oldest cob structures in N. America, or Florida or something like that. Point is, it was old and still there where it had been made centuries ago. Fairly close to water as well so it has survived a few hurricanes in its time.

Bad news... run away, run far away. We got rid of cable, but then the DW goes over to her mom's house, and watches the dang things with her sisters and mom. Then they all sit together and "plan". Nothing good ever comes of it.
