right now: spinach, basil, dill [hopefully], garlic, mustard and lettuce. i'll be putting in broccoli, onions and leeks soon. possibly carrots aswell.

i've got a lot more planned, but most will have to wait till late spring.

Planting your garden?! You, sir, are despicable!!! It's winter. Everyone knows that you can't plant a garden in winter. (shaking head)

Wow, looks like you got black dirt and everything?
    Looks like a good start.
I should go out and take a pic of all the snow and ice (and dog poop sickles) in mine right now.

everything is growing very slow this time of year.

all the fine green stuff in there is the most recent wave of chick-weed.

the stump in the picture is a cherry stump i'm trying to colonize with Plurotus oystreatus. it seems to be taking, slowly, but has to compete with a nasty trichoderma mold that had already taken over the stump.

oh, right: planted along that fence are the chayote squash. on the other side, in the alley are the prickly pear.

i've got the spaghetti squash, acorn squash and more beans germinating indoors on top of the stereo.

Nice Canid! That's a good sized plot.

Mine's frozen solid under the snow like Rick's, but without a fence to even remind me it's there.

thanks you. i'm strating to run out of room though, and will be moving around the front by spring.

you guys will be happy again when the snow and frosts are gone, i'm sure.

the cold winter is a small price to pay for not living in central california.

Canid, As you move to the front of the house, you might consider some perennials such as Coneflower (Echinacea spp) or Beebalm (Monarda spp). I find both make an excellent tea and Beebalm is such a fragrant plant.

I planted fruits along the side of the house with a large strawberry bed running down one side and a short trellis of raspberries. On the corner I placed a black currant bush. In the fall, it has flaming red and orange foliage.

    Just some thoughts.

    My winter garden.
(Which looks surprisingly similar to my summer garden.)
