Default The Moon Dogs are out tonight

3:AM and the sky is full of moon dogs. This should be the last hot (72*) day today, it is 38* above now. It will be a glorious day for a day hike into "Two Lakes" in the Chugach National Forest. Do you get Moon Dogs.....?

Nor have I. We certainly get halos around the moon with any high level ice crystals but I've never seen the "dogs".

The moon was real bright this morning at 1 but the air is still to warm for moon dogs. Sun pillars happen here more often.

spent last night out at the lake, blood red moon came up, remided me of a time way back when i was a kid and used to come up here and spend my summers, i am lucky enough to have been able to move back here to live, reminds me of a quote by brandon lee just a few days before he died, a quote i try to keep in the front of my mind at all times

You know how when the BAR (PUB) is closing. you ask some woman if she wants to go to your house to see your "etchings", and it is real dark in the Bar (PUB)......,Got the picture?????? OK, you walk out onto the street and it is Full MOON, and in the bright Moon'LIGHT you see that she is a real DOG.....Well, you got a MOON'DOG...... I am so going to burn in hell.

And you wonder why you don't have a woman (shaking head). We need to talk, seriously.

Take a look at the picture up above Winnie. When the moon shines through ice crystals in the upper atmosphere, the light is reflected and it appears there are two other moons, one on either side of the moon. They are known as the moon's dogs or moon dogs.

Rope your drawers on, Hopefully I can post some awesome photos of todays hike.....guranteeded to blow your drawers off. I was given a awesome walking stick, which I named: "THOR" and today Thor went for his first day hike.

There's no hope (the feeling not the WSF member) for you Hope(the WSF member not the feeling).
You describe what are known as beer goggles(spectacles) over here and it's a mixed sex phenomenon.
As for calling your stick "Thor", methinks you're boasting again, don't forget you have no outhouse door and we've seen!

And thankyou for the sensible definition Rck. I'll look out for those moon dogs, both definitions.
