    Default Slight Observation

It appears that some may be bored with this site. It seems to be stagnate with very little new material and very few new topics. Seems as if we have covered everything about survival. So I propose the powers that be try to come up with some new things. Might reduce the bickering and get people on track with what this forum is all about.

Just a few thoughts from a nobody.

    too many anal folks here
must do this must do that
relax, if you don't like the threads then read something else folks, i think people are way to hard on the new folks asking a question, how many of you post something hopeing for a response?
why just read all the archives,
new technology and new members might have something useful to add instead of just reading old threads, plus with all the hijacking and crap that goes on here i wouldn't want to read all that either
sorry to the newbies, some folks just think this is a social network and not a survival site.

i gave up a few months ago caring if anyone likes my posts or threads, i'm not here to make freinds, i am here to share my real world knowledge and to learn from others with the same, i said it before and i will say it again most here have knowledge but no real experience, there are a few here i hold with lots of respect and regard and many here i hold with disdain as they are not real only here cuz someone answers there musings very fast instead of having to wait a day or a week like someof the other forums
    mostly lonely i suspect

I have noticed that any post, that are to cause or start an arugument, are ignored by most. I get a good laugh out of most of you guys and try to play along, I anyone thinks I am an idiot or interrupting, just tell me LOL. There is no reason for the bickering, it is called a DISCUSSION forum. Maybe we should create a DEBATE forum. LOL. There is always one it the crowd that has to get everyone all riled up.

wareagle, what is highjacking? I'm pretty new to this forum way of life and I'm not up on the lingo. I personally like this forum, I can read the past threads AND see the current threads.
I'm disabled now and I can't get out in the woods like I used to but boy, in my better years it was nothing to spend two weeks to a month out away from everybody. When I read the posts here it's soothing in a way.
I don't know anyone here but there is something we all have in common...our love and respect for the outdoors. I don't really notice the bickering, I just look at it as good hearty conversation. I am, however, a little confused about the term "anal", I've never really heard about this in the woods. Am I in the wrong forum, after all? lol
    Just my two cents.

hijacking is when people start talking about something other than what the thread posted was about. Say I posted a thread about the differnce between a kimber and a springfield. And someone down the way starts talking about their couch. And everyone gets on that subject, they have hijacked the thread.

No problem, and the "anal" just means that those people are easily irritable. Have to be right about everything. You know...I don't think there is an exact way to explain that.

    Doug,
I have spent less time on the forum due to time taken up by additional seasonal chores. I would guess Im not alone on that. Are folks bored or just quiet because they are busy? Ether way, yes the forum has been quieter then it was this winter.

New things are a good idea but should not be limited to the powers that be. At present I do not have any suggestions but you have encouraged me to put some thought to that. How about you, any suggestions?

I have none either at this time. That's why I posted this. I have been thinking though, which can be scary at times.

Same question gets asked from time to time, and often by the same folks. People come and go. Some work, some live remotely, some lose interest, some get upset. Not too much different than everyday life.

As far as proposing that somebody come up with new topics - that's up to whomever wants to talk about a topic. In the last week there were probably more than 100 new threads started. Some sparked conversation, while others did not. If you want to talk about something - make the post. It doesn't take "the powers that be".

As far as bickering????? Look back a year or more ago. It was almost as if there was a food fight every other night. Face it - on a forum, just as in life, not everybody is going to see eye to eye. Sometimes that is made more challenging without voice inflections and facial expressions. IMO, things have actually been pretty tame lately. At worst, maybe more boredom than normal as some of the joking around has increased.

OK, remember the war we had a year ago over security of your space, that was fun, I and Wareagle got into some good educational conflict, and became friends subsequently. It gets a little messy, but you do learn how exposed you are. Maybe we could start another friendly WAR. I think in the end we decided that you can not protect your space, home, compound, retreat, etc. (This might not be a good time for WAR, winter might be better).

WarEagle, I respect you and yes things do sometimes get hijacked. But I have to disagree about this or any "gathering" being a "social" site. It is, IMO human nature to socialize whether it's 2 people or 2 billion, Those that don't want to be "around people" are generally termed anti-social. I have seen many posts where people DO NOT want to answer ANY question without a biography of the person asking a question. Sometimes these "Requests" make sense and sometimes not, at least not to me anyway. I am interested in SURVIVAL but I am also interested in other things as well. To me a firearm isn't about survival but about hunting(yeah I know that hunting is a part of survival) I don't go backpacking with a firearm, don't know anyone who does, and in some areas if you do and you are caught you are going to jail. I could say the same about many other outdoor activities. But during any one of them you could be placed in a survival situation. If everything about survival has already been covered then this site needs to be changed into a "social site". All the information should then be compiled and Given away to whoever desired it without concern for the consequences of such an action or the irresponsibility of such freedom of information. There are people who want to "drop out of sight" and take off "SURVIVAL-ing" without regard to the consequences. Some here would say "more power to them that's one less idiot to deal with". How would you feel if that were your son or daughter and no one actually cared enough to GUIDE them?
Whether anyone likes this or not- It is the responsibility of those that precede to guide those that follow, in this or any activity that you or anyone actually care about. Failure to do so is the antithesis of survival, and is tantamount to manslaughter by negligence. So it is OUR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that those that follow do so with the appropriate GUIDANCE, Which I will do to the best of my ability whether anyone else does or not. If it means hanging out here and telling jokes until someone "shows up" well that's what I intend to do. There is a time and place for everything, Positive attitude counts for a whole he!! of a lot in a survival situation I don't care who you are or how much experience you have.
The one that need our guidance the most are the young that tend to make rash decisions. So instead of people telling them to go take a hike stop and think how much of a man or woman that makes you. Not much in my opinion, and not much of a "survivalist" either, because you just might be sending them to their doom. So some are going to say "that's not my fault, I didn't make them do it." No you might not hold a gun on them and say get out and survive. But you might as well, you are condemning them just the same. Think Columbine or any number of instances when no one would just stop and LISTEN, and MAYBE JUST MAYBE steer them in the right direction.
Ok I've let all that off My Chest. let me end this with this thought--- In my book you are either part of the solution or part of the problem. What are you going to do?

P.S. Who did you learn from? You sure didn't wake up one day and know all you know, without SOMEONE teaching you. How can you pass it on,if you are turning them away.
