How much beer do you have to drink to think that would be a good idea? Seriously? If someone said, son, this is your job. You have to climb that wire rope ladder with no safety harness, you'd call OSHA. But these schmucks do it for free.

The up side to that is we just acquired an extra pair of sandles. Slightly used.

This reminds me of something that happened here about 3 months ago. A friend of mine from US visited and he had just completed US govt. survival training. We went to Huay Khao waterfall and he wanted to climb it and it is very steep and naturally the rocks are wet and slippery. He had smooth soled leather boots and I told him to go barefoot or change shoes but he said no problem. Naturally he fell on his butt. He slid down rocks and almost into the falls. I don't know what they teach at this school.
On the other hand the hilltribe guides here usually wear sandals or flip flops and run up rocks and cliffs like mountain goats but I would not try it myself.

And some tribes stretch their necks with brass rings, that doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Actually they do not really stretch their necks with brass rings. The rings press down their shoulder muscles and it creates the illusion of stretching their necks. The whole reason for this originated in some legend that brass rings kept tigers from biting them in the throat. I agree it is a bad idea. If the women take off the rings they will suffocate as they have no neck muscles.
