These are pretty common around here. They are fascinating to watch. The efficiency with which they hunt is spectacular. This afternoon my wife and I managed to get in nine holes of golf. There is a little public course nearby that we affectionately refer to as the cow pasture. Actually, that may be insulting to cow pastures. The course is heavily wooded and sits near the St. Johns river. We probably saw about twenty Peregrines while playing. On the ninth hole there was on in the middle of the fairway, a couple of feet from my ball (go figure --- me --- in the middle of the fairway). As I walked closer, it wasn't moving. I could see that it was feeding on something, but wasn't sure what. I was about ten feet from it when it took off in flight - with a four foot snake dangling from it's talons. Wish I would've had my camera with me to share it with you.
