    Default Maverick 88 Modifications

I bought a Maverick 88 Security with 8 shot magazine a couple of weeks ago and decided to modify it a bit. I used ATI modifications and I'm happy with most of it. Here's what it looked like before:

And here is what it looked like when I finished:

I ended up with a collapsible stock with extra shell holders, barrel heat shield, ghost sights and a weaver attachment near the end of the magazine for a light or laser.

The only thing I don't like is the slide release is on the left side behind the trigger guard and just a smidge too far for my thumb to reach. I have to twist my hand to actually reach it, which means moving the weapon out of position. That's just not acceptable. So I'm going to play with it a bit and either install a longer slide release or have a gunsmith do it. I haven't taken it apart yet or even looked at a parts list to see how much trouble it will be. I just did the mods this afternoon and found out I need to extend the release.

Does anyone happen to know of an OEM extender? I couldn't find anything on the web, which suprised me. As popular as these shotguns are and as popular as the mods are I would have thought someone would have solved the slide release issue by now.

I like to keep a clean bench and a clean desk. About once a week or so I can't take the clutter anymore and clean up everything I've managed to toss down. I really go ballistic when someone uses one of my tools and then lays it down "where ever". Aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhh! It has a place. You took it from the place. Put it back in the place. If they weren't kin I'd .........

I may find some lost items if I cleaned mine off, and the dig about putting things back in place well...... Anyway I think you did a nice job on the shotgun fitting it to yourself makes for quick handling and all that stuff you know. My only thoughts are that someone will go by the looks and declare it a hand held rocket launcher or some evil machine. I only have a heat shield on my Winchester, otherwise it looks like a regular shotgun. We have people in charge that make me appear sane. I like it, just would be a tad concerned what our favorite uncle will regulate next.

Can you use Mossberg parts? I hear the Maverick is a 'off brand' of them.

@ Sam - Yes, you can. There is even a link from the Maverick site to the Mossberg Accessories page. I sent a note to Marverick asking about the slide release and when Outlook opened the address was to Mossberg. The barrels and a lot more are interchangeable.
