Can somebody please direct me to the threads concerning bugout bags. I know there has to be some here but this is all I could find with several searches:

    Cool

My idea of a bug out bag is a little different, but this site is interesting:

By the way, I usually carry all of the stuff I need for a couple of days in two bags in each of my vehicles. My honey and the kids (after some "persuasion") have essential items with them at all times, too.

Nice site. He has some nice equipment listed. Can someone explain to me why they would spend $60-$100 on a flashlight? Seriously. I see them advertised all the time and for the life of me I can't figure out why I would want to buy one that expensive. My maglites and my photons only cost a few dollars, are water resistant, and shine as bright as I need. Both are adjustable in intensity and/or beam size. Is it just the cool factor or is there something I'm missing?

I used the site for ideas on types of equipment, not brands. As far as lights, I have several streamlight ultra stinger rechargeables. I need them for work, so there is one in each vehicle. They are a bit pricey (about $100 each) but for doing inspections...they make a 4 D-cell mag look like a birthday candle.

I personally like the ultrabright LED flashlights, way better battery life.

Anyways... I suppose its like the whole turning the screw thing. You don't pay a repair man $100 to turn a screw, you pay him to know which screw to turn.

For higher end gear you're paying the premium for peace of mind, and marginal better quality, with the idea that they will not let you down

My expensive lights (ultra stingers) are more tools for work. They're in the vehicles, so they will get used if needed for any situation that requires them. I agree with you Chris on the ultra bright led's. My favorites are my small ones in the 3 to 4 watt range.

I understand a work need. No argument there. I think I paid $20 something for my mini mag LED. Just wondering. They obviously sale or every manufacturer wouldn't make them.

I have several expensive ones. They're typically brighter, constructed of better quality, and last longer. I also like them to be rechargable. Granted, that's not worth a crap in a survival situation unless you've got a cigarette charger, as I do, but I don't like buying batteries. Check out Streamlight.

I've seen flashlights for $300. I think it is a "wow" factor to impress your buddies. I have a $30 Streamlight Septor headlamp. You can turn on 1, 3, or 7 white LEDs. Batteries last a looonng time. It's just what I need.

I understand some special requirement but all I need is to be able to find my arse in the dark, you know? Cheap, crush proof, water proof, burns for a 1000 years. That's all I need.
