    Default Organizing My Truck

I've got a full sized pick-up truck that I used for work before I went to a small Ranger (more economical). I always kept the installed pest control equipment in the truck in case of an emergency. In five years, I have had to use the full sized truck once, following an accident. This truck has always been my planned bug out vehicle. I could cram a lot of "stuff" in it, but with two large pieces of equipment installed, my space was limited. I removed and stored one piece, and sold off the other. It was refreshing to have a full sized pick up that could be used more efficiently for my intended purpose.

It's got two side storage areas. Each side has three lift out tops. The center is divided into three pieces that can either sit on the bed of the truck, or up on the rails. When up on the rails, there is quite a bit of room for storage below. More gear can be thrown in on the upper platform, or it can be used as a sleep platform. I still have some work to do (slide out drawer at rear, tie down ports, mount some equipment like power inverter, radio charging station, etc.) Here are some pics of the progress.

Now more room for "stuff"!!!! How soon until it is filled up? Good idea. My ranger is an open bed, and I have one toolbox installed and a "spare" box in the garage, partially filled with stuff if I ever have to do a bug out.

I like the higher topper. I was impressed with the possibilities that it offered. I love the way the sides open up.

Can I suggest the following if you don't have one?

    http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Booste.../dp/B003IEW37I

Ace Hardware had them on sale last year and I purchased one (wish I had bought more). Every time we head for the woods it goes with us. Sure enough, the grandkids fanned the doors enough that the battery was dead the next morning. Hooked up the power pack and it started right up. If that had been a SHTF situation it would have been worth its weight in gold.

I like what you're doing on the truck. The way the side panels open could you take advantage of that by rigging your power inverter and radio charging station so you could use it inside or out?

Nice setup Crash. My truck is open bed but I have a few tough boxes that ride with me. I also have a rack for the bed (it's off right now) that gives unlimited tie downs and rear window protection. I will put it back on after I roll the rino liner into it. Looks like you can get a ton of stuff under that cap though.

When I'm through, each of the pop out panels will have a label of what is below it. Each tote will be numbered and labeled. There will be a master inventory list on the inside of each door.

Yes, I've been told that I am sick.

Hahahahahaha. I once had a supervisor tell me you could judge the quality of a man's work by how he kept his truck. It's was pretty easy for me to do top quality work once I knew that! Muhahahahahahaha.

Now I have this mental picture of you, like rainman, sitting inside the back end with a stencil gun.

So, a clean truck meant good work? We just took out a right of way today and you should have seen the piles of old junk in the backs of the trucks on our way back into the barn...guess we did awful work today!

I think she meant how you keep it on a daily basis. Be very careful what you tell you're employees. They can generally deliver whether you want them to or not.

Yeah, I'm an employee. I can drive a micro-manager crazy! I think I've convinced our current supervisors that I am a halfway clever lineman and they just need to tell me what I need to get done by the end of the day.

We had productivity numbers to meet. Some MBA (did I say that?) had come up with some mathematical formula to rate us on how we worked. I asked what the expected number was and they told me. I made that number every week. Exactly that number. If you know the outcome and how the outcome is derived there's no reason that you can't reach the outcome.....if you not afraid to be a bit, uh, creative. Never tell your employees....never mind...

Crash - Jumper cables and fire extinguisher. Spare belts and hoses.

This is kinda fun outfitting on someone else's dollar.
