    Default Taking a trip

Hey, my names Mike, ive always loved the Idea of living primitivly since i was about 9. My friend Dan is the same way, latley I have been studying traps, snares, how to make weapons, shelter, and how to identify edible plants. We were thinking about going into the woods with nothing but our knives, a roll of hemp, and a roll of fishing string each and emergency rations.

We are going to do this this summer. Were going to allow for three weeks and will come back if we are cituatuon becomes to hard.

    what do you think?

I want to know honest oppinions and any advice is appreciated to

Uh, Mike, you're joking, right? You don't even tell us what part of the country you're living in. Also, we've already been through this in spades with two other guys.

Okay gang. He's a great opportunity to steer some folks in the right direction. I joined after your conversation with "the other two" and have no idea what was discussed. I doubt Mike will either. Can someone offer up a thread link for Mike to look at? I did some searches but came up empty.

Mike - We need to know a lot more information about your planned excursion. What you are wanting to do requires some substantial skills in a mundane environment (no desert, no mountains). I commend you for wanting to go primitive but have you and Dan spent some time testing your skills? Have you done any week-enders foraging, fire building, shelter building, etc.?

Nell, Thank you. That is one incredible thread. You would be hard pressed to find more survival information from more qualified people anywhere.

Gengrecko - I suggest you take some time and read through the thread....from start to finish...taking notes.

    Cool Hey guys...

You think maybe this is someone who's been here before that maybe has gotten kicked off and just came back under another name trying to stir things up? I wonder.....

It's more like "what I don't know". Everything about this poster is "sterile" No personal info on anything, yet he asks a "general question" without giving specifics on a topic that caused a lot of crap. Just on my guard. p.s.: Took care of the spammer, BTW.

Like you said, honest answers only please:

Interested since you were about 9 huh? How old are you now?

What kind of physical condition are you in?

What, if any, previous experience do you have living outdoors, living off the land, camping, etc?

What kind of environment do you live in? Obviously survival in a boreal forest is not the same as survival in a desert or an everglades.

What do you hope to accomplish with just a knife and a rope? Sounds like you've got all the equipment to commit suicide if things go really shi**y, but really...

You've been studying traps and snares? Great, have you been studying animals habitats and practices too? because if you haven't you might as well go study thermonuclear propulsion devices (not exactly rocket science) because if you don't know where and when to set those traps and snares you're going to be looking at a lot of nothing most likely unless you get really lucky. Never count on getting lucky

Those two fellas in that other thread that the others mentioned both had experience in the bush and yet....went out in some of the worst possible weather and thought they could survive with only their knives. That they even made 13 days is incredible.

You offer up some serious and honest responses to those questions and maybe take a look at taking a little more gear along than you first mentioned, I'll offer you all the advice I can think of, if not....this will be the last thing we have to discuss. I advise every newbie, all the time, start small, practice and work your way up to the big adventure. Having said that, the other piece of advice I'm starting to offer is don't waste people's time...be seriouis about this.

And if you're someone who got the boot before and is just coming around to jack people, get a life.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Right on point Trax, I agree and dito.
There is no greater solitude than that of the Tracker in the forest, unless perhaps it's that of the wolf in the wilderness.

hey sorry about that, i completley forgot about this thread...well from the time i was 6-15 (im 19 now) I was in the boy scouts...we made leantos, teepees, tools, and weapons with pretty much nothing but the environment, they also tought us how to make a fire using the bowdrill method...when I was 13 my friend kevin and I told our parents we were sleeping at each others houses and tried it for 5 days...we did pretty good...mostly got fish but did get 1 squirrel...my uncle tought me how to skin and clean pretty much any animal and I also go camping every year at least 3-4 weeks total...but on those occasions i bring a tent, food and other commodities.

Ive read the military guide fo survival cituations, read pretty much every article on this site, studied a book on edible plants, and will be practicing trapping and other such skills in mor depth durring the spring. Yeah thats about it, oh yeah and it will be in upstate newyork

oh and my physical condition...well im 5'8 160lbs lean...non smoker, i work out bi-daily and run track for my college, and I cant remember the last time ive gotten sick

as for what I hope to accomplish with a knife and a roll of twine...with that i can make shelter, tools, weapons, and traps along with other things such as eating utencils and pots and I also said a roll of fishing string which should be self explanitory...not to be rude lol
