Greetings from New York City.

It is going to snow today and I am quite excited! Accumulation is expected to be around 6-12".

I finally got around to searching for wilderness schools offering instructions on snow shelter building and winter camping in the northeast. Here is what I found,

Does anyone have any good/bad experience with these trips? And also any recommendations for similar weekend trips? My goal here is to learn snow shelter building (igloo preferred) and winter camping. Ultimately; igloo & northern lights.

I am a beginner.

In an effort to save energy the "Northern Lights" have been turned off on weekdays, and will only be shown on Fri. and Sat. nights from 7:PM till 1:AM we profoundly regret any inconvenience.

I haven't used any of these outfits... But I do know the area that #1 is based out of and used.one of my friends used them... He liked it but said he had wished he did a different trip... They hiked to a cabin in the white mts. That me and him had gone to before.. There are cabins and huts for public use allthroughout the white mts. He didn't do the snowshelter class so I've no idea how that is, but I will tell u they have a grid reputation.
It's a great area ... I've done many hikes and campouts in the same area... The sections of Maine and NH they go to offer easy to extremely challenging hikes... Its a beautiful area. And if you don't go with that class I would reccimend at least vacationing in the area at some time. I am often in that area as my family has. Land and a house up there.... In the winter we hike ski snowshoe..... Spring we hike fish camp... Summer. Is hiking fishing camping and boating on the rivers and lakes… in the fall I'd be scouting and hunting... If you do ever go up there and want advice or ideas on where to go shoot me a msg.

geeze i haven't been that far south in years, but i know the area my best freind lives right on lake of bays, beautiful area also known as the muskokas or cottage country lots of rich city folks with million dollar "cottages" with manicured lawns, much despised by lots of folks but i am sure that school is catered to the money city folks, if you want a true wilderness school send me a pm only 600 american for 7 days

Its about time, the carbon emissions is astonishing.

At least they've gone to "green" shopping bags. It was kinda of eerie to see folks walk out with plastic bags glowing with their purchase of norther lights.

They are based out of Windam which was very close to where i was living, And I've been to many of the places they list as their destinations. I would say call them and talk to one of the instructors to try and get a feel for the course. Explain what you want out of the course and go from there.

Back when I was just a youngster we made snow caves and some kids has died due to a cave ins. I just wont you to be aware.
