    Default H&R Topper Jr. .410 Model 88

This is one of my favorite "litte" guns. I have a question about the stock. Pictured is what appears to be a galvanized bolt. I am not sure if it holds the stock on, or was added for weight. I am pretty sure the stock was cut shorter prior to me. Any tips on removing the stock and if this is indeed an added weight, I'd sure appreciate it.

Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

Mine has a machine screw holding the stock on. I dont know what that bolt is there for. If you can pull it out, shine a flashlight in the hole and you will see the screw.

By machine screw do you mean like a deep resessed in the stock alan bolt?

You're right. There's something funky with that. Here's a schematic for you.

It takes a straight head screwdriver. It is deep in the stock. First you've got to get the bolt out. Have you tried pulling it out?

Thanks Rick! I thought so, my guess was to weigh it down for less recoil for a child...Now to see if I can get it out, it seems to be really well seated, maybe epoxy. Here goes nothing!

Galvanized steel is usually soft, if all else fails, you can drill into it and use an easy out or something to get it moving.

Through bolt! An old lineman's gun. There's not much you can't tear up with a through bolt and duct tape.

I still want to know if the stock has been shortened. The wooden stock is right at 11" long. What do you think?

I guess overall length. I measured the wood from the butt plate to the receiver.

If it is the same model the length of the butt plate would also answer my question. Camp, I appreciate your trying to help me.

The length of the butt plate is just shy of 4 3/4"
This is how I got the 12 1/3" measurement, the Bassett hound is okay with it.

Thanks Camp! About an inch has been cut off. I just got the last of the crumpled duck tape out and now see the machine screw. Thanks so much for your help! I got it now. Thanks to you too Rick!
